Finland for Thought
Politics, current events, culture - In Finland & United States

Tervetuloa | Welcome
As an American living in Finland, I started this blog six years ago to address the political and cultural issues in Finland and the United States - but lately this blog is just a place for me to make fun of Finns and Americans. :-)

Find out more about me from my personal or professional sites. Enjoy!

The U.S. ambassador to Finland is very active on the internets

The newly appointed United States ambassador to Finland, Bruce J. Oreck (yes, from the Oreck vacuum brand), has a blog which he updates quite often (way more than me lately)!

He even has a Facebook Fan page, Flickr stream, Twitter page, and YouTube page. Cool! With all those pages to update, I assume he spends most of his workday screwing around online – I mean, what else would an ambassador do!?

And how did Bruce become ambassador? By buying it of course..! I wonder how much a few years in the Finland embassy costs? My guess is that he donated more money to Obama than let’s say, the ambassador in [insert African or Middle Eastern country here]…

Bruce J. Oreck, for ambassador to Finland. Oreck, a lawyer who previously served as general counsel and vice president of his family’s famous vacuum company, bundled more than $500,000 to Obama’s presidential campaign. He and his wife, Charlotte, also bundled another $75,000 Obama’s inauguration. [...] Along with his wife and children, he has contributed $261,550 to federal Democratic candidates, parties and committees since 1989. That includes $9,200 to Obama and $1,000 to Hillary Clinton last cycle.

  1. So?

Name an ambassador who didn’t one way or another pay for the post…?

He is the first ambassador in the time I have lived here to have left his locked office… When he first arrived to Finland (for this post, at least) he did interviews in all the media and apparently is trying to put a good face on a severely damaged public relations situation (read the Bush Years).

He seems to be a cool guy with a breath of fresh air, something not easily achieved within the State Department… And it also seems to be rubbing off on the embassy. They actually answered a phone call the other day!

  3. As Dave the Revelator points out, there is absolutely nothing new under the sun in the way in which the US Ambassador to Finland was chosen. Once upon a time, the Finland Station was occasionally given to a career diplomat who often went on to bigger and better things, but for years now (think: “end of the Cold War”), this has been a pladge posting given to supporters of the incumbent president. I didn’t notice QUITE so much squawking from Phil during the time when the building in Kaivopuisto was occupied by Bonnie McElveen-Hunter (media, publishing – since given a job at the American Red Cross), by Earle I. Mack (real estate development), by Marilyn Ware (water utilities – hey, Land of a Thousand Lakes!), or by Barbara Barrett (attorney and CEO of Triple Creek Guest Ranch).
All were swing-door appointees who happened to pay up or rattle the tin adequately for the Bush administration. The subject actually caused some waves a few years ago (May 2007), when a staffer commented less than grovellingly on the inability of the FSO to do its work with all these amateur ambassadors (Ware was the one in the frame) eating cookies and getting in the way all the time.
He was duly sent to a posting in Iraq, the naughty boy.

So what has Mr. Oreck done to piss in your cornflakes so much? It couldn’t have anything to do with politics, could it?

  4. I always thought Phil would be the next ambassador to Finland. He already has the prestige for it. Why not?

  5. When Phil has Einsatzgruppe boosters like Prussian Blue, who needs enemas?

  6. It’s a pretty good point that the Holocaust myth is a postulate for preemptive war and military interventionism, not to mention “Jewish colonialism” in Palestine as well as in most western lands. Just look at who runs the central banking systems (Federal Reserve and ECB) in America and Europe, respectively. It’s a modern form of slavery which appears to support a new ethnically-based monarchy; one which we are not to question, because certain Supremacists have declared the ethnicity in question to be the “eternal victim.” War serves to boost the power and resources of the monarchy by enabling the creation of artificial debt via ‘fiat money.’

Despite this, we here in the United States are starting to question the “history” we’ve been taught. You might have recently read that a teacher in Las Vegas was censured for her attempt to educate her students with real history. You can find it on the web. Apparently the Marxists really did win WW2, as such selective anti-free speech measures were routinely enforced by the Soviet NKVD, as well.

(Just research NKVD bosses, Lazar Kaganovich, Lavrentiy Beria, Gengrikh Yagoda… all are Judeo-Marxists who mass-murdered 10s-of-millions of e.European Christians. Finland bravely fought against the Marxists, whereas criminals such as Roosevelt and Churchill, along with their associated banking cabal, supported them with financing and military hardware. Go figure.)

Ah well, these new Dark Ages will soon pass. But until they do, patriots will be vilified while Holo-fraudsters will have their last “hurrah!” at the expense of gullible ethnic-Christians.

PB, did you make the videos? I haven’t watched them all, but those I’ve seen appear nicely done. The Phil Donahue episode is hilarious lol

  7. @Prussian Blue (again)
Here’s another clip you could add to your collection. The “skin lampshades” and “human soap” have been discredited. Even the Holocaust industry has been forced to concede that these claims were lies. But that didn’t stop this guy from using them to indoctrinate a new generation of American students:

  9. At least I can rest assured that I have never bought an Oreck vacuum cleaner, and now I have a valid reason not to.

  10. I am a Finn and think that the previous US ambassador was active and represented her country very well. I also have no reason to believe that the current on wouldn’t be good either. Of course they have other duties as well, but I’m talking only about the public image.

  11. You can tell that you are all still wet behind the ears. The Shearers were quite active outside of the massive brick buildings out there in Embassyland. Their kids worked in Finnish companies and went to Finnish schools. One of them even stayed behind (is she still here?).

I won’t comment on the ones after that since they might not renew my passport next year if I did. ;) Or they might send me to Iraq considered my opinion on that particular one was identical to the one expressed.
