The Finns must be Crazy

Tags: Uncategorized — Author: @ 3:49 pm

God damn we’re pathetic in Finland sometimes. First we have an American astronaut who received a phone call in space from Finnish President Tarja Halonen, simply because one set of grandparents were Finnish..!?

President Tarja Halonen spoke on the phone on Monday with astronaut Timothy L. Kopra, at his post on the International Space Station. The 46-year-old Texan’s grandparents moved from Finland almost a century ago.

(Presidents of Germany & Poland: I’m still awaiting my phone call)

Then we have the authorities shutting down airspace and waterspace while ignoring noise disturbance violations to surrounding neighborhoods – and the news media goes apeshit over the past few days because of a pop concert!!

Who does this girl think she is, some sort of prima-donna? (-OR- Who does this girl think she is, Jesus’s mother!?)

“We are out here out of principle. It annoys me that the sea area is closed off just like that. In my opinion noone can say that the waters are now a no-go area or exclusion zone just because some gig promoter so requests”, Lehtinen says sharply.

Sometimes I feel like I’m living in an African village and a Coke bottle just dropped from the sky. Thank God I didn’t meet an Icelandic girl instead.

For once I have to agree with you. This is completely ridiculous and the way HS has been going on and on about some old prune doing aerobic on stage…….is, well pathetic to say the least.

  • riippumatto

I think it’s embarrasing that the media tries to make “the suominautti” Kopra look like he’s one of us finns. One article about his finnish roots would have been enough in my opinion.

“Thank God I didn’t meet an Icelandic girl instead.”

Well, at least it would have been good for your health, making those Madonna Stone Statues there :)

  • infinndel the jenkki dogg

Why is it that ***TORID TEMPTRESS TARJA”space cadet”HALONEN***,
the ***FEARLESS LEADER***,didn’t get up on the massive stage, located on a polluted industrial zone, and shake her booty,
    with the celestial tart***MADONNA***?!

  • aivansama

Finland had a change for your own Cosmonaut in the 70′s, which was missed due to talk about Finnlandisierung. Now we all yearn for the possibility for your own space heroes. Damn.

Come now Phil, we’ve had Coke since 1952! We’re modern here. But, I will let you into our extremely poorly kept secret, we are (crazy). I am surprised it took you this long to work it out! ;)

But seriously, I think it’s usually the Americans who are the ones claiming to be Finnish-Americans, Swedish-Americans, German-Americans, Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans etc etc, despite the fact that their most recent relative born in the country of origin in question may be very many generations back in time. So, the idea of the phone call may have not originated in Helsinki.

The Madonna thing is somewhat over the top, I agree, especially the closure of the water way. Then again I suppose it would have been bad for public safety if had been left open. Although, 85 000 people to one rock concert. Biggest ever in the Nordic countries (at least according to the newspapers). So, at least it is an opportunity to say ‘eat that, Sweden’.

Iceland eh? If you have not seen the movie MERI (Finish title) yet, then you should. It looks like a really messed up place. (and fun in a totally bizarre way)

  • Joe

I am honestly surprised that you have met any girls at all..

  • x

    Did Madonna sing like that?

So out of tune that “queen of p$p”

I am honestly surprised that you have met any girls at all..

I had to travel 8,000 miles to find one :-)

And what does this tell you? It tells you that in America, you are not discriminated against, even if your grand parents are from some other country. Can you say the same about Finland?

Finland is so isolated and away from everything else. Many stars do not come here, and hence the media frenzy. In my part of the world,we regularly see all the big American stars just walking about etc. Some actually live in my part of the world. We are definitely not as isolated as Finland, thank goodness!

What, so if my grandparents are German I get discriminated against? What are you trying to say here?

  • mara

Come on, guys! Did y’all loudly protest when Raumanmeri festival used to close off some sea area? And since when have the touring pop artist sung in concerts as cleanly as in studio? Just relax, drop those “objective” technical quality measures for subjective experiences, and you might start to understand the real value of that event. I had a C ticket & good company, and enjoyed the absolutely best day of summer 2009.

Did you know that all American military power is based and formed on Finnish engineering skills? All.

America would not have been conquerred without fortresses engineered by Finn lumberjacks. Cavalry had no idea for strategy and original natives would have won brilliantly defending themselves without couple smart Finn.

And major part of American’s “Swedish” grandfathers are indeed Finns – because almost all Finns changed their names to Swedish not to labelled as Russian people.

  • NotAHater

How is that pathetic? Stop hating, Phil. I actually know his relatives here and they do keep close contact. I think it’s a nice gesture that she called.

  • Sindri

Ha!! If you´d met an icelandic girl you would be in heaven.

  • maissi

Well, she doesn’t have that much to do.

  • majava

I’d like to see some of your claims backed up by sources, Finnsanity.

  • v.i.lenin

Why the hell doesn’t Veikkaus have a Space lotto and the proceeds go to putting Mika or Kimi into space.

  • Hank W.

And what does this tell you? It tells you that in America, you are not discriminated against, even if your grand parents are from some other country. Can you say the same about Finland?

No it says Americans have no sense of identity. My grandfather can be from the moon, but I am a Finn. Thats what counts who you are.

  • Freeridin’ Franklin

    Hank:
“No it says Americans have no sense of identity. My grandfather can be from the moon, but I am a Finn. Thats what counts who you are.”

Even if your grandfather is from Somalia, I take it.

  • presso

My grandfather came from Georgia (NOT Georgia Alabama). My father had one leg in Georgia, the other one in Finland. I am a Finn, nothing else.

Did my comment get stuck in the spam filter or was it deleted? Let me reiterate: I take it this will apply also if your grandfather is from Somalia.

  • Hank W.

Yeah, spambalablam filter ate your grandpa.

As long as you are the Finn in the family. Eat nails and shit chain.

  • Freeridin’ Franklin

    #24:

And do you have to pay a visit to Michael Jackson’s dermatologist to be “the Finn in the family”?

  • Hank W.

Skin color has no meaning to how you behave.
