Please learn how to read. I wrote only in Europe. Didn’t spesify “Finland” anywhere, methinks.
And by the way, what the heck does looks have to do with the ability to run a country??
If lots of women think like you do it’s no wonder there’s plenty of inequality everywhere. You don’t need any enemies from the male gender. You’re your own worst enemy it seems.

#6 “A black leader of the free world…only in America.”
Not only is the notion of the President of the United States being “the leader of the free world” a blatant insult to the sovereignty of other nations, it is completely illogical.
The only “leaders” that citizens of free countries should recognize are ones in whose election I have been allowed to vote, so unless they want to let us vote in their elections, Americans should stop claiming that their president is our leader.
Of course, most Americans who use this expression are probably blissfully unaware that it might offend anyone. After all, it wasn’t many decades ago that most white Americans thought that there was anything particularly objectionable about the “N-word”.
sam tha ham
Well, Obama can not do worse than baby Bush. I mean if he would, that would be the end of the US.
I read funny story about the hostage crisis in Teheran back 1980. After the crisis some of those nut case kidnappers asked from their prisoners could they help them to get visas to the USA.
So not every one who whishes to get in the US is a huge fan of it or something like that.
As person who has lived there I certainly hope that the americans get back their self esteem which has been down the tubes during past few years. It will good to see once again americans who stand up, cheerful and optimistic, instead of these fearful creeps who babble about the threaths and dangers and such shit. For too long americans have been scared and that does not suit for them. I think it is against their culture. They are basically positive and dynamic and should be.
And for those who think US as a bully. Yeah, it can be that too. But when americans don’t fear others they are not, not as individuals nor as a nation. That is something that could happen here too. Even guys like Winter will stop their negative crapping and get along with others.
USA is not a perfect country, far from it, but the idea is beyond anything we have here in Europe. Idea that the goverment is by the people for the people, that everyone is equal etc. Obamas brilliant speech put that on a map again.
Lets hope things will turn better in spirit. Economy is still going down.

#25 “the president of the USA IS the leader of the free world whether you like it, Finland likes it, or any other country likes it or not.”
No he isn’t. If he’s our leader, and we couldn’t vote for him, then by definition we aren’t “free”.
Anonymous
dude…
A leader is not always elected. Leadership, and by extension a leader, is someone who shows the way or has a commanding authority or influence.
That’s is why the American president is the leader of the free world.
It has nothing do to with voting for him.
For example the majority voted for Tarja Halonen. She is your president, but she has ZERO leadership.
urpo
#27 You are describing dictatorship. I thought America was trying to be example of democracy.
Suggesting that American president, say Bush, is leader of other democracies can be seen as insult.
Voting has nothing to do with granting someone authority or influence?
Ofcourse there is much joy in free countries becouse Obama, but not becouse he’s our leader. Becouse maybe now we can actually work with him.
Empire in Decay
I wouldn’t call America’s president the “leader of the free world.” Not anymore. Leadership is something that is earned. The series of failed wars over the past 5 years have shown that not everybody is willing to follow this self-proclaimed “leader.” At best, some countries followed in token form, in response to bribes and dubious promises. Now they see that it’s gotten them nowhere. Obama has a difficult task, ahead, in restoring America’s credibility, even if it means nothing more than being an equal player.
Anonymous
@28
Do not confuse authority with influence. They are entirely different.
K. Wilska
#27 “A leader is not always elected.”
No, only leaders of free countries are.
“Leadership, and by extension a leader, is someone who shows the way or has a commanding authority or influence.”
There’s a difference between “leadership” and being “The Leader”, (or as it is said in German, “der Führer”).
If President Obama wishes to show leadership on the international stage, then fine by me, but then he really has to show leadership. Simply being elected President of the United States does not give that person the right to be called “The Leader” of any FREE country other than his own.
I paraphrase myself from an earlier post: if Americans claim that their President is, by right, THE LEADER of any countries other than the United States itself, then those countries cannot, BY DEFINITION, be part of anything called the “free world”.
K. Wilska
#27 “For example the majority voted for Tarja Halonen. She is your president, but she has ZERO leadership.”
Let’s say that she has fairly little authority. Under the Finnish Parliamentary system, the role of the President is more limited than that of the US President, who, by the way, does not need a majority of the electorate to be elected (in 2000 Al Gore actually got more votes than Dubya).

It’s like Wilska said:
In a democratic, free system the leader is elected by the people. Non-americans haven’t voted in the presidential elections of the United States. This of course means that the president of USA is not the leader of other free, sovereign countries. Those who claim that he is are actually saying that he’s the leader with or without the consent from other countries and that of course means that those other countires are not FREE but under the oppression and dictatorship of the USA and its president. A comparison:
person A: “I’ve decided that I’m your boss.”
person B: “Even though you’re fairly rich and powerful and you could probably punch my lights out if you wanted, I actually don’t work for you and I don’t owe you anything. I also haven’t given you any authority to make decisions on my behalf.”
person A: “It’s all irrelevant. I’m your boss.”
The president of the USA might very well be the most powerful man on the planet and he might be in charge of one of the most influential countries in the world but he surely is NOT the leader of the whole free world. This won’t change until you give the citizens of other free countries the right to vote for their candidate in the presidential elections of the United States. Period.
CMQ
Sad, but true; most Finns simply can’t fathom the idea of a black president of the USA. They really can’t!! Racism here in Finland is really deep, and most Finns dismiss all black people as being stupid, and poor.
I know exactly what I am talking about, because I am a black person living in Finland. I am always accused of being “aggressive,” when I refuse to put up with the racist bullshit from the Finns, be it at university, or out in the public places!
See,I do not have an inferiority complex; I am from an area where blacks and whites live together peacefully, and where we black people truly demand , and are accorded respect!!
WILL KEEP ON FIGHTING THE RACISM MY OWN WAY IN FINLAND; ONLY HOPE THAT MORE BLACK PEOPLE HERE WOULD JOIN ME! The problem is that most of the black people here are from Africa, and for some weird reason, Africans accept any form of racism dished out to them ! I am totally different, from a differenr part of the world!
Good to see Obama in the White House. Obama’s family is testimony to the fact that there is a large middle class of educated, career driven blacks in the US, and not only the “gangsta” blacks which the media loves to show the rest of the world!!

Wilska and Anonymous . you two deserve a Medal of Finnish National Arrogance.
You may claop your hands for the black president in USA because:
1. everyone else does, so you follow that
2. he is in USA, never would be elected in Finnland

K. Wilska
#49
Mussukka is drawing some very strange conclusions about what motivates me. I don’t consider myself particularly nationalistic, so any arrogance that I have is personal .
As for your points:
1. I was pleased that Obama won because I think that he was the best electable candidate in the race, and I would have done so even if most Finns had disagreed with me.
2. Of course he would never be elected in Finland. He’s not a Finnish citizen, and even if he were, the Finnish constitution, like the one in the United States, limits the presidency to native-born citizens. For this same reason alone it may be a while before a black person is elected president, simply because there are not many who have been born here. For many voters a candidate’s ethnicity may present something of a threshold, but a number of non-white people have been elected to municipal councils, and I believe that Somali-born Zarah Abdullah actually got fairly close to being elected to Parliament, and Palestinian Ummayya Abu-Hanna came fairly close to getting into the European Parliament.
3. Certainly, many foreigners suffer from racist attitudes in Finland, but not from me.
CMQ
Quite right Mussaka; it is one thing to say that you will do something, and quite another thing to do it!
Yes, the Finns will say that they would vote for Obama, but only because they know that the the possibility of him running for elections here in Finland is nil! See they will say anything just to ride the popular wave, and not be accused of being racist!
Do not get me wrong; there are some really nice people in Finland. I can attest to that too. They are usually the ones who have travelled overseas, or worked overseas. But for every nice person here, you meet 5 racists!!FACT!!
What hope of integration does a nation have, when the young people, who are supposed to be more open minded, turn out to be the most racist of all??
Finland is a nice country, but most people will never see that , because the actions pf the racists there prevent them from seeing that!
I have never been called the “N word” to my face here, but the Finns actions nonetheless are racist!
CMQ
No. 48 You are wrong; EVERYONE deserves respect, until their personality and actions prove otherwise!!!
presso
CMQ, could you perhaps describe those racist actions. Must be something I fail to see without guidance…

“Have been told numerous times by even the racist Finns, that I am pleasing to the eyes!”
The way you keep saying “racist Finns” I think you have become a racist yourself. You are prejudging a nation being racist so it’s no wonder you are seeing racists everywhere. People see what they want to see. The next time you go out, keep repeating “Finns are not racists” and see how the world suddenly changes.
We have so few black people in Finland that when I see one in a bar I have no idea should I start with Finnish or English. I have to say moi and wait the response. Most of the time I get no response. Once I saw a black girl in our local Irish Pub. That was the one and only time I have ever seen a black person in an Irish Pub. It could be just me, but sometimes I feel that a part of the racism is caused by the black people with their own behaviour.

This is an interesting situation, not unlike the one described by Brecht in his Galileo play. As you may or may not now, he had built a telescope powerful enough to show Jupiter’s moons. The clergymen visiting his observatory would have liked to debate in Latin, based on Church doctrine and Aristotelean logic, whether Jupiter has moons. Galileo would have liked them to look through his telescope.
I don’t need a telescope to see that the sea is not frozen. I have an ample view from my living room window.

Leadership capabilites have nothing to do with being an officially elected leader. Having traits and abilites that make you a good leader is one thing. K. Wilska
Anyway, here’s another more recent British comment by columnist Muriel Grey in the Sunday Herals, which largely echoes my sentiments:
“Had Barack Obama been standing for election here I would doubtless have camped out all night to vote him in. In addition to the integrity of his character I’m particularly fond of his ears. But since we rightly had no say in his election, representing as he does his America citizens and not us, he’s going to have to watch it with that “leading the world” stuff.”
Jonas G
This debate is amusing. Leader of the free world is a meaningless expression used by some people in the media and politics to serve their own agenda and to generally liven up the feel of their coverage. It’s an exciting turn of phrase, nothing more. I don’t see any reason to get particularly upset about its use.
Of course, there is no definition of what constitutes the “free world”, so there certainly can’t be any official leader of it, as you can’t lead something that does not exist as a fixed concept.
Personally, I have difficulty seeing the USA as a potential leader of the free world. It uses execution regularly despite Obama’s recent anti-torture posturings. It has a human rights record that has more in comparison with those shining lights of liberty Saudi Arabia, Iran and China than with most western European (and certainly Scandinavian) countries. Still, no doubt it is a good thing that Obama is president and not the previous incompetent incumbent.
K. Wilska
#77 “Leader of the free world is a meaningless expression … I don’t see any reason to get particularly upset about its use.”
Somehow I like to promote clarity in expression; upset or not, I think that it is a subject worth commenting on, as do you, apparently.
“Of course, there is no definition of what constitutes the “free world””
Ain’t that the truth! It’s interesting that various US administrations have managed to see its Latin American “death squad democracies” both as parts of the “free world”, as well as part of its “back yard” – an expression that is a REAL denial of of their sovereignty.
Anonymous
“It is a piece from the Economist (UK)… That’s a magazine a bit more serious than Donald Duck that you and others in forum should read about who is the leader of the free world”
The expression “leader of the free world” is a relic of the Cold War era. It refers to a time when the USA was still being an undisputed leader of the world economy, back when the European Union did not exist as we know it. It’s a damn shame some people in the UK live that far in the past, it would be time for them to start living in the present, accept euro as their currency and accept the fact they are a part of the Union. But some of them still want to be the “51st state”, which is unfortunate for us all.

Jesus Taliban? You have to be kidding me. That’s like assuming that just because a church has the numbers “666″ as a part of their telephone number that they’re doomed (which is somewhat amusing because Mount Zion Bible Church in Pensacola, Florida has 6666 as the last four numbers in their telephone number).
While your head knowledge may be greater than others (given that you profess to be an atheist (which, IMO, is just another form of idolatry)), there are some things which you may never be fully cognizant of with regards of the work of Almighty God. Thus, you make an assumption which should be expected of someone who not only does not know Christ but who has absolutely no desire to know Him.
FYI, I no longer get bent out of shape over politics. The God whom you deny is actually in complete charge and control – in spite of the chaos you see on the telly. My complete trust and confidence is not in people, organizations and governments. I vote, but I know not to completely rely on them. (Even Ron Paul, himself a Member of Congress, distrusts expanded government.)
With regards to President Obama, it just was an observation, and nothing more. I did not use verses from Revelation to justify what I said because I do not subscribe to that bizarre doctrine. I would expect some others like Tim LaHaye to be that alarmist in their theology, but that is just not me.

A heathen like myself believes in something but not in your funny Jesus-story or that weird story about a guy called Muhammed who was and is the only guy to whom god ever spoke directly and told everything. These both concepts are hilarious and not too credible so I do not believe in them.
And how the hell you know what Jesus thinks about Obama or government or politics in general? I mean, that guy called Jesus, or Yeshua to be precise, died couple thouands of years ago (if he did lived at all). He can not be around, talking to you, anymore than I can be there right now, at this second, KAZAM! See?

Kinkku sam: You poor creepled thing, your enlighten by the Finnish science mind will most definitely lead you to either alcoholism or even more probable suicide. And then, well..your mortal remains will be just minced and threw away to dustbin. As you are NOTHING else but a piece of meat. Congratulations on your self-confidence you idiot.
I once smelled Mussuka and boy did my nostrils burn for weeks
Mussuka, man you are a pathetic excuse of a human being. Do as all a favour and seek some help for your delusions. TEH Intranets is not the solution

Make it funky now, Tussukka!

#92:
How on earth would you even consider me to be an atheist? That just does not make any logical sense.
Dave the Revelator: Not every participator in this forum would agree with you. A vast majority? Yes. Unanimously? Besides me, no. After all, “winter” comes around here quite often (from what I’ve seen).
#95: You question if Jesus ever lived. I could tell you that the Bible proves this but you would probably dismiss that. Fair enough. Secular sources which were penned around that time also confirm this. Josephus is the best known example. Pliny the Younger is another non-Christian source.
Funny, how many aggressive Finns one can meet on every public forum. Like a national virus or disease.
I have to say that if your bodies are as dirty as the language you use, there is not strong enough disinfectant to keep you clean.
Probably mostly women here, sounds like Finnbitches group barking. But at the wrong tree this time:)))))))))))
The crisis prevention center for foreigners works to help all foreigners living in Finland as well as their families to cope with psychological and social problems.

Post number 99. is a prime textbook example of projection: The person projects his or her own reactions, thoughts and emotions onto others as he or she can’t handle and come to terms with them as a part of his or her own personality.

Dave: Tussukka’s pidgin, despite the awkward attempts at misspelling Finnish words, strongly suggests that “she” is Finnish. Probably one of those lackeys of Hullu-uho trying to provoke intolerance against foreigners.
Dave the Revelator
Hey, Franklin, don’t harsh on my troll-baiting.

Oh, Elevator and Franklin together again:) Nice to be in the circus for free with two clowns performing so eagerly. Better than any help centers Elevator – watching Finns flying high like baloons filled with hatred:)))))

All hail President Obama, the leader of the free world–even Pres. Clinton shot missiles like so many pieces of candy whenever the heat came down in America. When the U.S. economy grows worse (than even Europe), watch out for more missiles. Those innumerable flying drones (Predators, Global Hawks and the like) with their cameras and missiles will help take the heat off Pres. Obama too. Who needs nuclear bombs when you have everything else at your disposal? Now THAT is power… not just a couple aging jet fighters…defense-my rear.
Freeridin’ Franklin
I’m always happy to perform for you, Tussuka.

As for #111, I guess the honeymoon is officially over. Jenkit kotiin Ameriikasta!
