The Grass is always Greener in British Lapland…

Tags: Uncategorized — Author:   @ 5:24 pm

Check out the pictures that go with this story!  Apparently, a new Lapland Christmas theme park in the U.K. opened to dismal reviews, and hundreds of complainers are demanding a refund for their £25 per ticket.  How much would you be willing to pay to experience the pristine white Christmas that we naturally have in our very own beautiful Lapland?   I suppose 25 quid is a lot cheaper than a VR ticket or flight up to Kittilä, but, would you sell out and settle for something like this for the kiddies if you didn’t live in Finland?  Lapland is still on my to-do list, but you can be sure that there is no substitute for the real thing.   I wonder what the Sami think of this!

Hei!…Megsu..You definately need a trip to Santa’s village in Rovaniemi..They got reindeer in a corral you can walk right up to…but be careful that they do not drool their saliva on your shoes, like they did to me…YUCK!…Also beware of large white polar bears that have been seen spooking reindeer herds in the vicinity of Rovaniemi airport..Those cute, cuddly beasts are a sure sign of global warming!

They should’ve rename it “Chavland Christmas Theme Park” though the Santas Grotto is about as kitch…

    @2,

Kymijoki is nowhere near Lapland. At the moment there’s something like 25 to 50 centimeters of snow in the real Lapland.

WOW!…I just read the BBC article…LOL…that “Lapland of northern England is a serious SCAM!
Regardng Santa’s Village in Rovaniemi…It is very nice and interesting, but very commercialized.
I got to talk to Santa in his office at his headquarters! It
    Was a funny experiance!
There is a very big store that has amazing collection of everything Santa and Christmas, and a place to drink lapin Kulta olut..YAAAAY!
Then there is a small factory outlet store, that sells Marimekko, Ittala,Arabia and such …. There is a small amusement park and a place for small reindeer herd.
Santas headquarters has a restaurant and function room..
All in all Santa’s Village is a fancy, well thought out..
***tourist trap*** that tries to extricate RAHA from your wallet…You can walk on/over Napapirri (Artic Circle)
and mail a letter to anywhere in world from Santa’s post office!
Across the street from Santa’s Village is Rovaniemi Finland AirForce base, and you can hear Amerikkkan jets flying over your head.!

The japanese have Amsterdam, Paris and bet other places too in good old Nippon, but they don’t mind. Japanese actors play the dutch and the french and that is okay for the tourists (japanese that is).

  • Winter

Even I, the most evil one, has been to Lapland. Megsu you do need to go.

  • issi

Just like our plans for r&d dept. recreation trip.
Chairs lined up in corridor, people sitting down, drinking booze, listening muzak and standing in queue for toilet.
If anyone is still on conscious by the arrival, some office will do for a lousy hotel room company could afford.

At the end no one has recollections of being anywhere or how they got home, business as usual.

According todays Iltalehti, which is always a reliable newspaper, this brittish Santa was beaten by an angry dad. The elves ran away after they had been attaced and one of the elves sobbed hystericaly after one mum told her to ********. A Real Winter Wonderland!!

@7, no doubt there is more ass to suck at Playa Del Ingles than in Oulu.
