Politics, current events, culture - In Finland & United States

Tervetuloa | Welcome
As an American living in Finland, I started this blog six years ago to address the political and cultural issues in Finland and the United States - but lately this blog is just a place for me to make fun of Finns and Americans. :-)

Find out more about me from my personal or professional sites. Enjoy!

Finnish Men are the Most Beautiful in the World

Tags: Everything — Author: Hank W.  @ 5:12 pm

So many people lately have written about the macho male culture in Finland. So I have to agree, we have the best looking men as the HS writes

The drag duo Showhat is going to be on tour this autumn. Bring some brutal burlesque into the doom and gloom!

Remember Rudy Giuliani’s obsession for crossdressing?

Any day soon HcCain’s gotta dump the Barbie fron Alaska and Rudy’s gonna replace her as veep candidate in a desperate effort for credibility for the repub tickdet. Tou just mark my words!

  9. Today’s vote in the US Congress underscores one of the biggest calamities in world finance history and this post is the best you’ve got?

Evidently, a lot of Finns read this page and they might well be interested in this issue because of its eventual relevance to them.

I, as a US expat myself in Finland, have begun to reconsider the actual possibilites that I might end up staying here permanently not because of choice but because somewhere down the line, perhaps sooner rather than later, there might not be a place (jobs, homes) to return to in the US.

Oh, and FYI, Congress just rejected the bill the ‘bipartisan’ group came up with over the weekend. The Dow is on a continuous march downwards this afternoon, and oil has fallen below 100USD a barrel.

But drag queens are so funny.

Do you know geography? There is land beyond the boundaries,
even if you say “ulkomaa”: outland outground

  11. Dave:
“there might not be a place (jobs, homes) to return to in the US.”

Oh, come on! There’s an incredible supply of increasingly affordable homes in the US. It’s here that we’re running out of land. Soon Beverly Hills and Upper East Side are cheaper than Leppävaara and Töölö, respectively. Mark my words. Not to mention that you can get 5 mansions in the Hamptons for the price of one cottage by Saimaa.

Granted, the prices are a tad high, but we have a wise minister of housing telling us that it is because of new apartments having never-before-seen mod cons such as running water. Windows too. Get your mortgage from Glitnir, they’re flush with cash!

  12. Ok, granted, if I brought some capital from outside of the US, I could probably find a home. But what would I do?

I am not well suited to the service industry, as I hate whiny customers. Banks probably won’t be hiring. The newspapers where I once was employed will probably all be owned by the same conglomerate by the time I get back — and they’ll be downsizing, too. Construction? Nope… No one is buying new homes. Maybe I should run for president.

Nah, I would last about 3 minutes in a vetting. I know! My new career as an undertaker with a specialty in cleaning up messy suicide corpses (ie the investment bankers due to start raining along Wall Street in the coming year)!

Don’t swipe my idea or I’ll have to sue you!

  14. #11 Running out of room in Finland v. NYC Metro Area???? Uhhhhh…You are way off dude. Real estate in the HKI metro area is still staggeringly cheap, yes cheap, in comparison to New York City or its environs and in Finland, even southern Finland there is tons of space to build. Espoo ain’t Westchester County either. I’m not saying that the housing market still hasn’t readjusted in HKI, but its bound to. England is just about to get theirs and we certainly are dealing with it in the states.
