  6. # 5, no we didnt. I think he’s referring to the boarder the finnish soldiers advanced during the contuation war before the russians started pushing them back untill Finland signed a deal giving them Petsamo and some more land. I believe Finland lost more than 10% of it’s land during WWII.

  7. Russians took your land? Like that are taking it in Georgia?

  10. #7: Indeed, winnie, and see how useful it was for Georgia to be part of the Coalition of the Braindead.

  11. When ü is become part of our alphabets? It isn’t even Scandinavien letter :). Other than that he is right finland is going to dominate the world but U.S.A will be U.S.Ä :)

  12. So let’s deconstruct this. Why did they pick Finland, and what does Finland represent? Or is it just that out of all of the 20th century Olympiad hosts, Finland was close (geographically) to Germany (and Russia!) and just strange enough — just foreign enough — that it could be portrayed as threatening? Perhaps we’re getting a lesson in how to dehumanise an opponent, as a prelude to bombing the bejeezus out of them?

    Comment by v.i.lenin — Mon, Aug 18th, 2008 @ 11:00 am

  13. Well Finland is the smallest host country after WWII (and ever) so it’s quite easy choice.

    Comment by Kennel — Mon, Aug 18th, 2008 @ 12:43 pm

  14. It’s a bit you numbnuts. “So let’s deconstruct this” Please! It’s a small bit on a tv show. Get over it. This is so sad when you have to analyze a spoof tv show. You all know it’s a spoof, right? Finland and their every progressive sense of humor. You guys remind me of the guy they throw the party for that gets out of jail. Yes, we’re happy to see you but you were in jail and now we have to go home. You get to keep the hidden secret that you were raped but deep down we all know it.

  15. “how useful it was for Georgia to be part of the Coalition of the Braindead.”

better than what they are now getting from the EU.

So, lets ask one question. Who did they turn to for help? The EU, or the USA?

That answer should settle the question of who is expected to get things done in this world.

Your troups are there, did they stop anything?

  21. Does anyone know how to save those Comedy Central videos to the hard drive? YouTube videos are easy to save, but this one is something very different. When watching a YouTube video, the player requests an flv or mp4 file and starts downloading it. If you can recover the name (URL) of the file, you can save it. The Comedy Central video player sends a request and then little packets of data start coming back. Don’t really know how to save them.

  26. Rauhoittukaa.

I love how a silly spoof turns into all this nationalistic posturing. Keep in mind The Colbert Report is ALL ABOUT spoofing the US; our culture, religions, politics, media etc. etc. So, now Finland got the Colbert bump. Is that a bad thing?

It’s true we have all been lazy in learning Finnish so let’s start. American tourists, when you visit Finland, if you learn nothing else, make sure you can say, Saisinko salmiakkia, and prepare for an unprecedented culinary experience.
