Board Game Auction 2008
It’s time for my fourth annual summer board game auction, yay!! This time I’ve teamed up with my neighbor and close friend, Saku S., to bring you even MORE great games - here’s how it works…
Below are the starting prices. Simply leave a comment below with your bids. Each bid must be 1 euro higher than the previous. Please include both your name and e-mail address. (if your message doesn’t immediately appear, it may have got caught in my spam guard - I’ll check my spam throughout the day so just wait a few hours and it will show)
I will update this page daily with the highest bids - however, when placing a bid, search through the comments to be sure you are the highest bidder.
I’ll be at Ropecon 2008, so I can bring the games there. If you won’t be at Ropecon, I can meet you in Espoo, or send the games in the Post (at your expense). I’ll accept bank transfer or cash.
The auction begins now (July 30th) and ends on Friday, August 8th at 12:00.

A suggestion: don’t end the auctions at 12 o’clock, but wait a couple minutes after the last bid, like in huuto.net, so that everybody has time to outbid if willing to. Good for you, good for us

This would be ok also because the server time is a little off so there might be a question whether the last bid was posted 12:00 real time or 12:00 server time.
Because this would be a change to the rules during the auction somebody might feel that it’s not right. For that reason let’s do this so that if anybody objects to this change please post a comment by noon tomorrow (Thursday, August 7th). If there is even one objection by then this change won’t come into effect. If nobody objects I’ll update the rules above the bids.
Basically the change would be as follows:
The auction ends on Friday, August 8th at 12:00 UNLESS there is a bid in the last 5 minutes. The auction is then extended by 5 minutes until there is at least 5 minutes from the last bid and the auction ends. Any bid coming after Friday 12:00 with a time stamp which has at least 5 minute difference to the previous bid is invalid and the auction is closed.

So time stamp on the comment is the deciding factor as ruled by the sellers. I’d also like to know whether my bid @ 12.00PM server time stands or not

Measuring time on anything but the server time would be problematic, as the different bidders’ clocks could differ by several minutes. What would be the deciding factor then, and how would you know it by looking at the comments?
The issue with server time was discussed and ruled before and bidders have had to read previous comments for at least knowing what to bid.

Measuring time on anything but the server time would be problematic, as the different bidders’ clocks could differ by several minutes. What would be the deciding factor then, and how would you know it by looking at the comments?
The issue with server time was discussed and ruled before and bidders have had to read previous comments for at least knowing what to bid.
Yeah, sorry about the guys, we realized a few days ago that the server’s time is a few minutes off. I e-mailed the server’s admin but never got a response - so unforunately we have to go with the server time.

I would think that the sellers tell whether a 12:00 pm bid is valid or not… not a random commenter.
