Tervetuloa | Welcome
As an American living in Finland, I started this blog six years ago to address the political and cultural issues in Finland and the United States - but lately this blog is just a place for me to make fun of Finns and Americans. :-)

Innocents (Idiots?) Abroad – Five US Citizens Seek Asylum in Finland

Tags: Uncategorized — Author: Hank W.  @ 2:48 pm

Oh man. The border guards got a surprise.

Now as these American asylum-seekers came within the Schengen area, according to the Dublin agreement they will be sent back to their entry point in the EU. Which is a bit of a downput from the news perspective, as by all probability the Finnish authorities won’t even make any kind of assessment on their application.

  1. Well, I have Tar and Feathers for them. And if that fails a Hummer in every driveway for them to run away from.

  2. Gee, do they say why? Skiing better in Finland, than in Canada?

  7. Must have been Kerry 2004 supporters. Took them long enough to get here. Or they’ve been applying for asylum in every country they have stopped in.

  8. Guess we will have to wait another day or two to get the scoop on them. It might have been a joke, but that surely will wear off after a day of sitting in a locked room with a glass door with some real refugees.

Perhaps the parents should be investigated for child endangerment. Then again, maybe there is something else to charge them with for wating everyone’s time, especially considering the real migrant problem.

  10. They’re most likely Democrats, and even though the US will soon have a new President, most likely a fellow Dem, they know that Obama or Hillary will get us out of Iraq just as fast as Bush would!

    Comment by Phil — Wed, Sep 19th, 2007 @ 5:19 pm

  11. Phil,

Surely, they will be deranged Democrats. You know, the 40+% that thinks the Government was behind 9/11

Then again, maybe one of them is wanted by the authorities.

  12. Well, Bill Clinton was in Finland for the purposes of draft-dodging in his youth, and theres a few of the “old skool” yanks from tht time. But really since the Vietnam war seeking asylum hasn’t been much successful.

  13. Hay, I want a President that will get the USA out of Germany. Have we won that war yet?

  14. Don’t forget Korea as well. After all, the South Korea President is pushing Bush to declare that war over. I am surprised that the Dems did not grab onto that opportunity to end a ‘war’ and bring thousands of troops home.

  15. Without logistics of huge US base called Ramstein in Germany your precious soldiers in Iraq would be in serious trouble.

    Comment by tim73 — Wed, Sep 19th, 2007 @ 9:18 pm

  16. Tim73, the list?? While you’re thinking of Germany, think East and tell me about the list…..

  17. IS:n tietojen mukaan Suomeen tulleet amerikkalaiset kuuluvat samaan yhteisöön. Turvapaikkaoikeuden pyynnön syytä ei vielä virallisesti tiedetä, mutta se ei liity Irakin sodan protestointiin.

So, apparently nothing to do with Iraq. “Yhteisö” in this context makes me think about some religious sect. Santa worshippers, perhaps?

  19. PHIL. when you say get “US” out of Iraq, what do you mean US Phil?
When you mean “US” does that mean you at one time served in the U.S armed forces ? I was U.S.M.C for six years…I could say “us”. But in what context do YOU mean “us” Phil ?

  26. 25:

“We analyzed data from two *top sources* covering 141 nations to rank the world’s greenest, most livable places. View the complete city and country rankings.”

Wow. I’m really soooo impressed. Could you find the errr…source of these “top sources”? I mean, usually one is required to quote sources and methodology, and to explain how Graz (pop. 250,000) and New York fit in the same study…

As for the poor confused folks at Seutula…
Hey, don’t they KNOW we got Phil already – we don’t NEED no more dire, boorish, muddled asses, no more kvetching doofuses out of grimy Baltimore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to flat-tax Tallinn instead. I lift my leg and give them a golden shower.

    Or words to that effect.
