The Monaco of Finland
Police suspect that three children found dead in an apartment in Espoo were killed by their mother. The 40-year-old single mother of the victims – eight-year-old twin daughters, and a son who would have turned two this month – was arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder.
Police found the bodies of the children in the woman’s apartment in the Suvela area of Espoo on Monday. The mother was in the apartment when the police arrived.

BTW – I just wanted to tell my joke about Suvela and needed an article that mentioned it, I guess using one about dead children wasn’t very appropriate. :-/

I was expecting more something about how the press categorized the suspect as a “Finnish citizen with an Asian background,” not something about tax evasion.

Phil this sentence “Suvela, “the Monaco of Finland†– Over 50 different nationalities not paying taxes. LOL!!!!” shoukd have been in another blog entry discussing about Espoonkeskus as a whole.. i don’t think the sense of humour is appropriate here (Although you are free to joke on anything…).
That’s a total tragedy…I was just wandering what on hell happen to that mother. As for her it must have been hard to raise those children and as a mother she must have loved them..but to act in a cold blooded fashion…unbelievable…Could it be some depression that she got when having it’s last child? i heard that some woman contract bed depression when a baby born… or was due to the father, she couldn’t handle the break up with her ex-husband…
It reminds the story of the little english girl in portugal and the same type of case in Belgium where a mother killed 4 of her child while her husband was travelling.

It seems that the woman drugged the kids before she killed them, but that a murder weapon has not been found and it did not appear to be a very violent death.
A friend of the mother tipped off police, apparently the mother had a history of abusing her husband before their acrimonious divorce.

Sometimes it is hard to know if this is really racist or just a relevant description of the suspect. If she was from Häme and it said she was from Tavastland instead of Asian origin would it not be just as much description of her? I think there is a danger of becoming so overly politically correct that we look for a hidden prejudice that is not there in the first place.
Although as the article does go on to stress that the father is Finnish, it is hard to know if they are making an issue of race. Sometimes I don’t know if I am also being overly-PC or not… it’s hard to in this day and age!
It is a sad case though.

I’m too rolling on the floor and laughing out loud. But then I got angry when I realised that the press didn’t keep silent about the background of the poor lady who only killed her kids. Since when has that been a crime? But now the Suvela aspect comes to mind once again I’m Laughing Out Loud … In Germany the kids could certainly have taken a Taxi. But in Finalnad they just couldn’t afford it and got killed. We’d blame it on you socialists, but it’s just too funny …

And I was thinking he might have made hay with the tabloid allegations that Espoo social services would have given all three kids to the mother, in the face of the father’s accusations that she had been violent and he’d had to flee to the battered spouse shelter.
