Tags: Uncategorized — Author: @ 12:31 am

It’s a total waste of bandwidth but in case you’re curious to see how bad I suck on TV, here’s me on Markku’s SubTV morning show…

  • poncho

well you didn’t suck, just Markku’s english sucked.

  • Passer-by

well you didn’t suck, just Markku’s english sucked.

Markku’s english was just perfect for his character :p

That was kinda weird and… awkward :)

  • tim73

    good one :)

  • aet75

So bad it’s easily good :) I wonder, with all the complaining about ‘Markku’s’ English, how is it off-character?

  • Lan Theroux

Is this Markku supposed to be some kind of finnish Borat?

  • Anonymous

Phil is becoming a tv superstar. First I believe his hand was shown and/or voice heard in Conan’s Finland special, and now this!

    Yeah, exactly! :D

Yeah, it was a little awkward. But still funny.

I liked Markku’s Vappu special. Markku asking that guy in the chair if the kids were drunk yet and his reply was “Not yet.” I was rolling.

  • Kristian

Bravo! Some technical difficulties, but otherwise good. Hard to understand a few of those questions

  • Porolainen

Why wasn’t this in Finnish ? Phil speaks Finnish also.

Or did Finnish come later. Stopped half way through due to finding the character about as funny as Tarja.

  • Smithy

Phil, why do you want to go back to the US? Look how much fun you get to have in Finland :)

  • Anonymous

Hahahaha, this is amazing. I love the live feed at the bottom too.

  • http://mrontemp.blogspot.com/ Ontario Emperor

I liked watching Markku’s see through paper.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever been interviewed *in-depth* by a Finnish interviewer about your perspectives on the country?

  • Hank W.

@6 Phils been in tv properly interviewed about his radio podcast, so this is the third time over.

Hehe, yeah first my blog appeared on CNN for like 3 seconds, then I was shown in the press room when Conan arrived for like 1 second, then on FST, now on a morning chat show. Next my goal is to get in one of the evening trash newspapers like Hymy. :-D

Heh no, they tend to interview older British men for that stuff. I only get talked to for joke stuff like Conan and Markku. :-)

  • I

    Here’s the vappu special: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akry_BV2euA

  • Antonio

Oh boy, you’re on your way to become the next Roman Schaltz :)

  • iJusten

    wow, that was pretty awkward.

  • Keksi

Priceless :) Glad you got it Phil :)

  • Freeridin’ Franklin

#1: Markku talks better Nokia-inklis (you know, Nokia is a city in Finland) than the rest of you berry pickers together.

  • Susan Kuronen

Finnish word of the day: “myötähäpeä”, look it up Phil.

  • katas

    Its better than membered
    good one phil :)

  • Antti rn

In kekkoslovakia, Phil would be a household name already and Markku would have been taken seriously.

  • Katrina

Hey Phil! That wasn’t bad at all! I’d just pass out or start giggling uncontrollably. I think you did well!

  • olli

    LMAO

Kinda like Borat, only a bit more uncomfortable. :D

  • http://aikani.blogspot.com Timo

I think Markku’s English should be more consistent. The guy is constantly slipping off the correct tankero pronounciation and uttering far too many un-Finnish sounds!

  • Freeridin’ Franklin

I think Markku’s English should be more consistent. The guy is constantly slipping off the correct tankero pronounciation and uttering far too many un-Finnish sounds!

Occasionally he lets a genuine English idiom slip through instead of relying on Finnish ones as turned from word to word as he should. Markku, get your act together!

  • Katsoja

Hehe, that was good. :D Phil did good also, thumbs up!

  • maria

Why on earth they need to stick Markku on TV? As if the Finnish men don’t already have nerdy enough look and reputation. When I visit central Europe I know exactly who are the Finnish men by their looks, and as I approach them I can hear them mumbling in Finnish.

All we need is that Markku gets drunk on TV and that’s it. He was funny the first time I saw his video but to put him on TV? I wouldn’t proudly show this show to any foreigner. Why is it so hard for Finnish people to make good comedy?

What comes to Phil on TV… I can hear & see you had hard time holding that laughter. I think that was the best comedy. Great job Phil!

    30.–>

So go “glose the TV” if is not to to your likings.

    ;-)

  • http://www.finlandforthought.net Phil

Why is it so hard for Finnish people to make good comedy?

Cause it’s written by Brits like Neil Hardwick. LOL!!!! :D

  • Markku is best

Lol.. Phil was pretty awkward there. Markku owned you!
