Finland is gearing up for Eurovision and the thousands of tourists that will arrive for the first time in this great nation - and what a better way to welcome the newcomers than to have our beloved Markku host a SubTV morning chat show…

My videos start running from 16ht of April until the end of Eurovision 2007! So watch out!

During may´s 2. -12. day I manufacture morning show called Markku´s Morning Comb to Eurovision 2007! It uses goodly finnish SMS teknology! It is on air every day from 8.00 - 8.30 in Subtv. So watch out!

…and guess who’s gonna be a guest on his show next week! :-)

Visit his SubTV page for more info and his MySpace page for all the latest video clips and happenings. Here’s a few of Markku’s latest Eurovision clips you may have missed…

  1. Seriously, who gives this Jackass airtime? I want i noway be associated with an illiterate simpleton like this “Markku” character. Great publicity for Finland indeed. We have no other means of producing comedy so we give up before we even try and “Heittää läskiksi”.
We trow it on the fat as we say Markku style.

Argh, I’m gonna go hide under a rock during this whole fiasco.

  2. Looks like the only thing this guy can say is “It is said [insert something about Finland here]” and “Can you believe me or not, [insert something about Finland here]“, with extremely poor english. I hope he will get a fucking dictionary because he’s using too many finnish while speaking english and creating stupid words of his own.

Why is he “famous” anyways? Another thing that bothers me is that he wears those same clothes wherever he goes. And what’s up with the fanny pack!?
I really hope people realize that Markku whateverhislastnameis is NOT what a typical finn is like.

Honestly, I don’t even know why do i give a shit about him.

It seems to me that there is something broken inside his head so i sincerely wish him the best of luck in future.

PS. Sorry if i angered some of his “fans” but this is just my opinion.

  3. I guess Markku is making parody of some late 90’s attitudes, when Mika Häkkinen and Nokia were doing great and Finland was supposed to be some IT utopia. A bit like in the 80’s, but in cash, instead of a credit card.

He is a bit like mämmi though. It’s good for few times in the easter, but not all year round.

It is called comedy. And to a veteran ulkomaalainen like me, it is rather funny.

It is a bit dated, but the theme music (the horrible 1995 techno song celebrating the Finnish hockey team’s gold medal) sums it up perfectly, like Antti said…

If you see yourself in the parody it is not so funny. I can’t count the times I have seen Finns laugh out loud when they see a parody of say, dumb trailer trash from Arkansas or better yet, Texas or when some Simpsons joke about all Americans being illiterate is laughed at by Finns who have never even been in the US… This is the same thing.

I think the Finnish language jokes are some of his best material… Like his “vinks” for visitors to Finland. However nobody but us lifer-foreigners or linguists (or actual Finns) would get the joke.

If he was up in Oulu humping reindeer for jokes that would be one thing, but he is not insulting Finland or Finns… He’s doing what comedians have been doing forever: laughing at himself.

  6. Yeah, i need to relax. It’s all in good fun, I guess. I admit he’s kinda funny in a very stupid, unique way.
He could use some english lessons though ; )

  8. Haha, I really understand if you don’t get what’s so funny actually, but as a Finn Markku makes me giggle - there are the biggest stereotypes and the stupidest Finnish accent ever. We don’t all talk like that, and I’m actually sure that he can pronounce better but he pretends to be like that. Did you know, that Markku from Finland is made by a group, which involves Finnish students and this Markku? The second person with a hood sweater is one of the group members. I saw a little article on some magazine about this.

Markku from Finland is just parody.

  10. LH: “Markku” (that’s not the guys real name) is actually an AD, and as said, the whole Markku thingy is just a parody, invented by couple of guys. There was a story in City magazine a while ago, and there’s been few lines here and there as well. I started as a joke between the guys themselves, but thanks to Youtube and such, it went public fast. It hand’t gone big when Markku was a guest on Phil’s Radio Free Finland, and I doubt if Phil actually knew he wasn’t a real character at that time :D
