Hanna Pakarinen wins Finnish Eurovision contest

Tags: Uncategorized — Author: @ 9:30 pm

Former Idols winner, Hanna Pakarinen, will represent Finland in this year’s Eurovision contest (held in Helsinki) with her song “Leave me alone”. Last year’s winner, Lordi, went on to win the 2006 Eurovision contest.

It’s a good song, sung in English, and not typical Eurovision garbage, and not trying to imitate Lordi’s style. But I’m not sure exactly “special” enough to win the contest.

Viewers chose their favourite performer by phoning or sending a text message to show organisers.

The voting was held in two stages, with twelve performers competing in the first phase. In the second stage, viewers chose their favourite from the top three performers.

The 2007 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Helsinki on May 12th.

    Thunderstone should’ve won. :(

  • David

    Lovex should’ve won XD !

Before Lordi came along, Finland was more concerned about making it to the final or not getting dropped out than winning :) Haven’t heard the song but I like her style, I’m sure she’s going to do Finland proud.

    Yep, Thunderstone should have won…

  • Antti (the redneck)

I’m still expecting Eläkeläiset to terrorize whole ESC crowd.

@5. That’s a great idea, I’d definitely want to see that:)

Hanna is a babe. But the chorus lyrics (“Leave me alone, a want to go home …”) are not exactly Shakespeare, are they?

  • Liber Al

I wanna go home”, of course.

  • Keksi

Agree on the “not special enough” -part. Ok tune though. Doubt we’ll have to be last this year anyway :)

  • Viljami

No, it’s not going to win, but it’s not bad either. Good choice to bring that top15 place.

Hey, what if we sent an instrumental progressive rock group to Eurovision? THAT would be different, at least.

“Hey, what if we sent an instrumental progressive rock group to Eurovision? THAT would be different, at least.”

Though it would be so out of place there. Too beautiful.

Though I have nothing against Hanna, I think all of the participants in the qualification were terrible.

Bitches & Stilettos might have had a chance with a better song, at least it would have been a direct change from Lordi to “rap-techno-vibrated scheissenatum” Now we have just an a okay Hanna. I actually like her music but there isn’t anything spectacular about it.

  • Kez0nat0r

Bitches & stilettos being Beats & styles of course.

Zero points would be nice again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VItVHe4tniI

The song is too negative, but maybe that was the point. The voters are bored with the Eurovisions and want to fail. I have no problem with that.

How well do the host cities usually do in the rankings?

  • pepe

This was a good choice if you don’t want to win and organize expensive final again. Lovex or Thunderstone for example imo would have been in the top-5. Hanna’s voice is nice but the song ain’t!

  • Kaislis

There’s nothing to remember in Hannas song, and now she has to learn to sing too.

I think the voters picked the best choice available. “Leave Me Alone” is better than your average Eurovision song and Ms Pakarinen is a reasonably charismatic performer. Thunderstone wouldn’t have been an awful pick, but their stage show wasn’t as flashy and their song wasn’t as memorable based on a single listen. Lovex was blatantly awful: the song was unmemorable and they performed it badly, especially the singer.

The arty ballad by Johanna Kurkela had potential, but was a tad too pretentious. Humane’s little pop ditty was poorly performed; the choreography was awkward and Kim Herold isn’t a very good singer. Katra is a stilted performer and the plagiarism charges would have followed her to the final. Jani & Jetsetters were in the wrong place. The rest pretty much sucked even for Eurovision contestants.

I agree with comment #5: Eläkeläiset would *totally* roool..! ;)
