There’s nothing wrong with borrowing other peoples music and remixing them as long as you acknowledge their contribution and give them credit for it. Stealing other peoples work and presenting it as your own is not remixing.

Actually, the practice of stealing another person’s IP is very socialist. Claiming the stolen work as your own and charging big $$$ for it, as well as employing an army of lawyers to make sure that the other guy has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning a lawsuit is very capitalist.

Only artists endorsed by the music industry oligopoly should be making money from music. This is in line with libertarian ideals.

As songs are just intellectual property, and there is an infinite amount of copies of the TempestÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s songs still available, so thereÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s really no damage done, is there?

There was an artist a couple years ago, “Mighty Mouse” or something, he remixed The Beatles with Jay-Z in an album called “The Grey Album”. I don’t believe The Beatles nor Jay-Z received any royalties. Of course, he at least made it known that it was Jay-Z and The Beatles whom he was remixing. If he would have had paid royalities, the album would never had been made, cause he’d probably never be able to afford it or get permission in the first place.

So, I don’t have a problem with remixing, I’m not sure Tempest should receive any $$ for this. I think this public outcry and ostracizing that we’re seeing is a good way to handle the situation.

Well I’m not sure how this would be different in a stricter market, ripping off someone else’s music has nothing to do with political ideology.

But anyways – I love house & trance music, and in this genre there’s lots of remixing, sampling, and basically ripping off of other music, and I seriously doubt many of them have permission. But the difference is, it’s usually some broke guy ripping off the music, often from another broke guy. None of these house & trance musicians are real superstars, and none of these guys make much money at all if they rip off a song.
