I’ve been reading Finnish and foreigner in Finland blogs for yeas and this is the first time I heard about Ovi. I suppose there are advertisement banners in some blogs and sites, but I just naturally ignore web ads them. Shows how useless most advertising is.

Before I set off on any of my web projects, i ALWAYS check google to see if anyone is using the same name. Obviouslz he didnt take the 10 seconds to do this, or he’s a dick and doesnt care.

and no, i would never suggest a lawsuit or anzthing. the woRd Ovi can not be reserved, either should ’seven days’ or ‘evening paper’ be reserved by law

I think you better have things arranged in trademark protection, because you are not a freely distributed paper magazine for the general public, so there is a difference.

Get a trademark laywer.

Real sad that guy couldn’t think up something unique on his own. Anyway, he should have done the research to make sure he wasn’t stealing anything before he named it, even if it is a small online magazine.

Hmmm…In my childhood there was this “Break on through to the other side” -graffiti in Suomenlinna in that corridor you walked when coming from the ferry…

“The Ovi” != “Ovi”

I certainly hope that nobody can claim to own a common every day word. Otherwise I could claim that I’ve been using the word “Finland” longer than Phil’s blog and sue him.

And correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Phil oppose all kinds of intellectual properties anyway? (That is, as long as it’s not his or his friends’ property).

Why this thought that Nikula would have somekind of malicious intent? He probably has never even heard of this “Ovi” magazine, as I suspect the majority of finns haven’t. It’s a simple case of reminding him that the name is already in use and that’s that. Why the weeping?
