Suomen Sisu not to face charges for posting Mohammed cartoon

A few weeks ago I interviewed the head of Finnish nationalist group Suomen Sisu on Radio Free Finland. He and two of his colleagues were under investigation for posting the infamous Mohammed cartoons on their website. To our knowledge, they were only group throughout Europe who were under federal investigation for posting the cartoons. But the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation wisely chose not to embarass the country and trample on our rights…
According to Deputy Prosecutor General Jorma Kalske, publishing the pictures did not constitute a crime against the freedom of worship. A crime should have the intention of causing offence or defamation.
Jaakko Hämeen-Anttila, a professor of Arabic language and Islam at the University of Helsinki, gave an expert opinion during the preliminary investigation. He said publishing the pictures did hurt Muslims’ religious feelings.
In February, Suomen Sisu posted pictures of the prophet that had previously been published by a Danish newspaper. According to the organisation, the decision to publish was in protest at the Swedish government’s decision to close down a xenophobic website after it had published one of the pictures.
