Is the comment problem fixed?

Tags: Uncategorized — Author: @ 6:15 pm

Over the past month this blog has had some problems with the comment section. Often when you write a comment, the name/e-mail/URL of the previous commenter is automatically inserted into those fields instead of your own. I haven’t heard people mention this problem in a while, is it still occuring?

  • Justen

I got it just today at school. It claimed I was X-RAY.

  • Justen

    “is it still occuring?”

Yes. Right now. I’m not “Justen”, but the form claims I am.

  • Justen

    yup

  • Justen

    most def still occuring

  • http://www.finlandforthought.net Phil

Cool, thanks for the info Justens. I thought maybe I made it go away but I guess not.

  • winter

Ask Justin what Brouser he is using? Netscape and IE seem to work.

  • http://www.finlandforthought.net Phil

Yeah, I am no longer about to replicate the problem. Winter, did you ever have this problem in the past?

Justen – which browser are you using?

  • Arttu

I’m one of the original Justen’s. I was and am using FF 1.5. This time all the fields were empty.

  • Arttu

..but now, after leaving the previous comment, I switched to IE and “Arttu” was already there waiting for me, so it has nothing to do with browser. Strange enough.

  • Justen

    Im the real Justen.

Now that I think of it, I was using Firefox at school. I dont know what the version was.

Im using Firefox at the moment too (at home), but I aren’t experiencing any problems.

  • Justen

FF 1.5 Here, I’m seeing Justen.

  • Freeridin’ Franklin

    I’m seeing Justen.

And so am I, with Firefox 1.5.0.1 (XP).

Also, the software seems to think that I’m posting too often, as it’s telling me to “slow down cowboy” after my first post of the day.

Am I commenting too much? You be the judge, Phil.

  • http://www.finlandforthought.net Phil

Okay, I don’t think the problem is my blog or the browsers…it’s Justen!! ;-_

  • http://koti.phnet.fi/bevertje/index.html majava

    Who is “Mara”?

  • Anna

I read some comments from work (windows and ie) and it and it seemed that if I wanted to comment, the nickname of the perious commenter would have been credited for it. No such problem witrh linux though.

  • Anna

blah blah, parse that one together willya.

  • prince of dorkness

How about everybody checks it’s OK before submitting? Too much work?

I’m correctly labelled now but was Drakon 15 seconds ago on another thread. He wasn’t the last commenter on the thread. Can’t figure the logic of the bug.

  • Mr. Anonymous

From what I was able to analyze using Fiddler (http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/) this isn’t a browser related problem since it is either Phil’s server or a man-in-the-middle causing this problem. Probably the guilty one is the ISP who has set some caching proxy on the upstream traffic to Phil’s server. (Is your ISP Elisa, Phil? )

Phil, try to enable (or set) Cache-Control to “private” at first (it isn’t set to anything right now) and see if it helps. If not, set Cache-Control to “public, no-cache” and we’ll see if someone of the tweaks actually work.

Here’s how to set the cache control value:

  • Mr. Anonymous

And, now I’m mister anonymous, although i’m on a whole another computer… :?

  • http://www.finlandforthought.net Phil

Ahhhhhhhh!! Maybe it’s my cache plug-in! I’ve disabled it, try it now!

  • Mr. Anonymous

Comments problem is now fixed! :)

(Or, at least, judging by my tests… ;) )

  • sepisp

Yay, I’m automatically me! I got tired of pimping my new ability to be Freeridin’ Franklin automagically.
