March Murder Spree?
I haven’t had too much time to read the newspapers this week. Too much work, and no time but a brief glance. But just on the brief glance… whats with this foreigner spousal murder wave???
A murder-suicide of a “foreign origin” couple today in Sysmä; A 25-year old Azerbaijani asylum seeker arrested for the murder of the Russian immigrant Natalia Sidorova, 31 in Vantaa; A 32-year old Somalian-born man stabbed his 27 year old wife ‘of foreign origin’ fatally on their apartment parking lot on Wednesday… What is this – Mad March? Too much sunlight? Or are all the crazy Finns still hibernating, or so drunk they miss? Not that I want to read about anyone committing domestic violence, but this is a bit of a statistical anomaly? Three couples in short succession. Really sad if you think of it. There seems to have been more family murder/suicides the past year though all in all, so maybe this is just a trend…Ah, my bad, according to the statistics – the amount of family murder-suicides has actually gone down. Today the average is 8 such cases, whereas in the 1960′s the number was 15. They just get more publicity today. OK, I blame the media for my misconceptions.
Now of course next time this year the US State Department will list these as “crimes against foreigners” and all the flower-hatted-aunties will cry crocodile tears because of this because “Finland is racist”. Doubly damned statistics.
My beef with the US State Department is that I’d like to see the same report done of the USA. Human trafficking… OK, so when you stop people travelling like the Georgian women last year and then you read a complaint on that in the very next report! And now we’re in trouble with the Chinese Government, they went ahead logging a note over Chinese citizens having visa troubles entering Schengen! You’re damned if you do anything and damned if you don’t.
