Conan’s idea of fun is to make equal fun of everything. Like a carnival, it brings down all authority figures and norms, and makes them appear laughable and ridiculous. But if you get a public, like the Finns who watch him, who are in on the idea of satire he puts forth, it’s not going to work. We usually laugh with him, but when it comes to his Finland jokes in the past year, we’ve been also laughing AT him. It’s been hilarious, and most Finns don’t take him seriously, we just find it an American outlet for our self-deprecating humour.

Finland Friday probably won’t be a hilarious ’scandal’ like his visit to Canada. Besides, Americans always make fun of Canada because it’s more familiar (compare with Sweden-Finland jokes). Saying that, Conan didn’t bring Triumph to Finland. Now, that would’ve resulted in his usual funny, anarchic and subversive stuff !
