Problems with the comments section, please help!
So over the past week or two, there’s been an issue in the comment section. Users write a comment, then occasionally a previous user’s name is listed as their own. I am unable to replicate this issue for some reason and I really need your help so I can fix this…
- When you write a comment and the incorrect name appears, whose name is it? The previous commenter? Or someone completely random? Or..?
- When you’re writing your comment and the browser/blog automatically inserts your user details in the fields for you – are the details correct at that time? Or are they sometimes incorrect, but you don’t notice it until after you’ve pressed the submit button?
- This bug seems to happen sometimes, and other times it works fine. When it’s happening, is it happening for all the posts? Or just some particualr posts?
- Have anyone found any workarounds for this? (like restarting the browser or reloading the page or ??)
- If you’ve had this problem, please tell me which browser and version you’re using. Also, have you tried clearing your browser cookies for this site yet?
- Does anyone have any more info on this? Anymore details that will help me debug this?

Always the previous commenter, so not at random.
It doesn’t fool you, so you see what name will be there.
Not in all threads.
Removing the cookies had no effect.
Using Mozilla 1.2.1

One more thing: I wrote this up here, just now, went to the poverty thread and saw still the name of the previous commenter there and not my nick. Return to this thread and it applies the correct (my) cookie here! In my cookie jar I found two new cookies. One for the name and one for the “website”. Let me see what happens if I write something in a different topic.

After posting something in the poverty thread with my real web site address there, it still shows the old stuff here. No new cookies either. I don’t get it!

At least now it seems to give me the name of the previous commenter. The wrong information is there right after I click to view comments and cleaning cookies, temporary files etc. doesn’t seem to make any difference.
My browser is Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1.

Hold on, it seems that this problem affects only some posts. From the newer ones that were available on the front page, only the following seem to suffer from this:
- Problems with the comments section, please help!
- Finnish freedom fighter, Anders Chydenius
- 10% of Finns threatened by poverty
When I click to view comments of those, the Name and/or Website fields already contain information of the previous writer. The rest seems to work fine, i.e. the fields are empty.

Let me try… Fields were empty and I filled in my details. I’m using Opera 8.51 and Linux.

OK, my comment thingie says “Söderberg” now, and he wasn’t the last commenter on this thing at least, to my knowledge… So maybe the latest commenter on the whole site gets the info picked up on my IE who-knows-what-version.

Offtopic… Why am I commenting at 4 in the morning:
5 tea spoons of old-school Nescafe and a dozen cubes of sugar in a 3dl mug of hot water works like cocaine on me, since I don’t usually drink coffee. Two days awake, third one starting, running out of things to do, reviewed the whole 28 lukio courses in advanced physics, math and chemistry, and I forgot to eat today =D, well now it’s yesterday actually. I just can’t feel tired… Somehow this has eliminated parts of my usual free thinking and instead rationalised to producing context rather than linking&forming the essential, so a lot of stuff and no point whatsoever. I just can’t feel tired.

I use internet explorer version 6.0, on this thread it is working fine with the right name and everything, but sometimes i have noticed the previous poster’s name appear instead of mine. It never seems to have been completley random.

Using Firefox. Noticed the same phenomenon as ‘A Finn’, 90% of the time when it happens its the previous poster, but sometimes totally random. I haven’t gotten “myself” to show up

Aha, went to ‘Chydenius’ and ‘Poverty’ – nothing. Then in ‘Heritage’ was the last poster and ‘Hockey’ as well. Then I went back to ‘Chydenius’ – nothing and now back here ’twas me! And Finlandforum only has one cookie for me
