Hm. The downloadable and firefox compatible ones seem to be different things?

Uh yes, ignore and delete my incoherent ramblings. I’ve obviously not had enough morning coffee yet.

Hi,
Is that clip available for download anywhere else by any chance? It seems to be really hard to get a download-slot from Thailand. Seems like we have a lot of proxies in use here…

Great work on providing links to video clips, guys!
There was also a short piece on today’s YLE News in English, so maybe someone with the right equipment would like to save a clip from the stream available here (Windows Media).

Also, Conan appeared on local TV of Rovaniemi.Anyone? (Or they had some footage of him, at least.)

” The president’s spokeswoman said Halonen had wanted to thank O’Brien for making Finland better known, and the two had agreed they “might, indeed, resemble each other.â€Â
“When O’Brien said he looked more like his mother than his father, the president sent her greetings,†spokeswoman Maria Romantschuk said.
“I think she (Halonen) was pleased and quite relieved to hear that,†O’Brien said. ”

That interview was hilarious if only for Katie’s little dig that Conan ‘may have finally found an audience’ when referring to the fans in Finland.

Here’s a joke:
“Tunnetko ketään Niskasta?”
“No, en mä kyllä niskasta.”
(Conan’s productiton team reading this blog, you can use this hilarious example of Finnish humour for a very moderate fee. Contact me for further information.)

Bah, I posted that Today Show clip first here but I guess no one reads this http://www.finlandforthought.net/2006/02/13/helsingin-sanomat-belittles-conans-visit/ anymore
I live in Rovaniemi and didn’t know we have a local TV channel. Do we?
Can’t believe I was a few blocks away from Conan and didn’t even notice, oh well…

Yeah. And what about the “freezing weather that is not used to” (or something) at the same time when New York was being drowned by snow.
Finland’s climate, by the way, is about the same as in southern Canada - or Torino. And not particularly far from that of New york.
Anyway, Conan’s average ratings in the US are around 2,5 million, I think. In Finland they seem to be somewhere around 50 000. Now if he brings Finland ratings to, say 500 000, that would be a remarkable overall rise.
But nevertheless it’s the US viewers he has to have in mind. I’m pretty sure that Finland will be portrayed in a ridiculous way - what else could it be - and many Finns will feel betrayed.
Perhaps that’s the reason he’s been a bit nervous?

Katie Couric is dumb as a brick. I can’t stand her.

Try some good old HTML, for start and for the end (don’t use the * symbols, they are there only so that the system doesn’t put the stuff between them in italics).

Yeah the today show with Katie was a nice input. But come on “pop by in Italy” - you shouldn’t try to be funny with a face that tight, it’ll melt right off.

Betrayed or insulted by what Conan might put on his show?
Ahem, fans should realize what Conan’s sense of humour is, if they are fans, and I fully expect him to punch us in the stomach, and then we can laugh about it later, because through parody you can show things you usually can’t.
If people get upset about that, when they fully know what Conan’s style is like, then I wonder why people wanted him to visit in the first place, or why he’s so popular…
Like Conan himself said, “People here seem to really get it” (not exact quote, but you get the idea), I thought of the postcards fans sent Conan in response to Conan’s campaign of insulting every world in the country, one of the postcards said “Dear Conan, I hate my homeland too”. Self-deprecating humour is a very finnish thing, let’s see if we can deal with it when it’s humour at the expense of our nation

Yeah, after all this publicity we can be pretty sure that also people who don’t get it will tune into Late Night on Subtv - and probably get angry. Well, all the more fun for the rest of us! ;D

Nobody will be betrayed. That´s what people expect, to be shown in a ridiculous light. Fat naked men will gallop on Saunaseura pier…
