Tervetuloa | Welcome
As an American living in Finland, I started this blog six years ago to address the political and cultural issues in Finland and the United States - but lately this blog is just a place for me to make fun of Finns and Americans. :-)

  1. Poor conan. Some over anxious reporter following you.. not nice. He deserves some privacy.

  2. Was there something a bit “different” about that girl who was waiting for him at the beginning? (I’m just watching it now)

  3. Well i just lost all my respect for that loser and mtv3. They said they had a permission but now it seem they were just stalking him.

  4. I don’t know about the girl, but Conan O’Brien seems to really like Coca-Cola. :D

  5. There was definitely something different both with the girl and the MTV3 reporter…

  6. I think there was definitely something different with both the girls on the clip, the one in the beginning and the one traveling on their bus…

  7. That was amazing. I had completely forgotten, again, how hilariously and poignantly imcompetent mtv3 is and has always been, compared even to something like subTV, and that they own. I just remembered how crappy graphics they’ve always had, how their cameramen keep bumping into stuff on a regular basis in live shows, how they have the most awful cuts to commercial breaks I’ve ever witnessed, how the most amusing thing about them is that weatherman who always seems to be trying to attack you and is just about to come through when they cut it (not so fun to see after seeing the ring and/or suffering from a caffeine overdose)…and of course, how, when the famous loppukevennys comes in the ten o’clock news, the anchors still after a couple of decades of practice manage to sit there looking like someone just shoved a rather long stick in their arse and finding it hard to figure out who was supposed to say what next.

So what was that clip then? What was it trying to be? If the aim was to show how a slightly weird reporter stalked some famous American guy for absolutely no reason, then it was a success. Now any decent dodgy reporter would have tried to get an interview and if refused one made his best to portray O’Brien’s visit in a negative light. But as a dodgy channel, mtv3 is again hilariously incompetent. Instead, the reporter just let us know that the man he’s stalking doesn’t really want to be followed, but that he’s following him anyway, for no apparent reason other than satisfying a Finnish desire to know where your neighbour is going and what they’re doing. And the material he got out of it was a couple of very weird interviews where the girls who got to meet O’Brien were actually too shy to talk about it, and the same footage of O’Brien’s visit that has been shown everywhere else. So basically, he just made himself look insane. Brilliant!

  8. I’m so embarrassed about the Finnish media (MTV3) at the moment that I cannot find any other words except: I feel sorry for Conan…

  9. Conan might’ve had more fun encounter with the guys at MoonTV if it would’ve been around.

    Domestic television sucks now.
