Conan on MTV3 this morning
More clips from Saturday’s arrival, this new one from MTV3 this morning showed him walking around town and chatting with people.
http://www.kolumbus.fi/sipila.mikko/Conan-13-2-2006.avi (18 MB - 4 minutes - WMV - MP3 audio)
Thanks again to Mikko S. for the rip!!

It’s great that you are putting up links to all of these videos. I wish it was still possible to meet Conan, but I guess there won’t be anymore fan-meetings, unless you “accidentally” bump into him on the street.

I’d like to thank you too Phil, for making all of these clips available. And of course the original TV rippers for ripping them, encoding them, and making them available on the net in the first place. I’m a Finn who’s been living in Australia for the past 5 months (bloody oath), and therefore have no access to Finnish TV channels
Comment by Anssi — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 11:31 am
what software do you use for ripping streaming content? I’ve got WM Recorder but it only allows me to record for 2 minutes and (it seems) those can only be the first two minutes.
yep, I second Anssi’s and Tommy’s comments, shamefully I’ve seen your content listed around without a direct link to this place.

This site is great! Thanx for the clips

Here’s a Finn living in India getting the latest info on Conan from your site. Thanks for the clips Phil!

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, even Hesari’s Intl Ed finally picked up the story: Chat-show host sends fans into near-hysteria at Helsinki airport:
“There is no doubt the turnout surprised the organisers as much as it did Conan O’Brien. ‘There hasn’t been anything like this seen at the airport since Paul Anka’, said one police officer, referring to the teen idol’s visit in the 1950s.”
Comment by Joonas — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 1:39 pm
thank you for your input on the conan issue, phil. The press conference with conan at the airport would have sucked so much without you. The stuck up Finnish press really are boring us to death.
thank you.

i hope someone introduces conan to my least favorite finnish culinary delight-mämmi. i suppose its way too easy of a target for humor for him to take on…

TV Finland pitäisi näkyä myös ulkomailla?
Comment by finnboy — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 5:17 pm
finnboy, TV Finland isn’t available in Australia.

Ei kyllä näy Australiaan saakka, hyvä jos kattaa Euroopan.

By the way, can someone tell me what it was that Arto said in yesterday’s show when Conan replied something like “that was your word, Arto, not mine”, they were talking about sauna. I couldn’t make it out.
Comment by rePt — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 5:31 pm
“Erotic” ?
Comment by Sale — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 5:54 pm
the word was indeed “erotic”.
Comment by jenkki immigrant — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 6:10 pm
Thanks guys. That crossed my mind but it sounded a bit different so I thought it’s something else.

I just realized that Conan and Tarja have another look-alike front viewor he could’ve been their offspring-profile view
Comment by conan — Mon, Feb 13th, 2006 @ 7:32 pm
oops, it didn’t work
Phil, please delete my lousy “php geek try” above.
I guess I should do it old-fashioned way, Conan and Tarja look-alike

Finland, its not just for Finns anymore…

Viva la Finland, land of love and liberty

Yea, no TV Finland here. And I can pretty much tune in on only Seven, SBS and Ten on my own telly. The reception of TVs in the kitchen and living room are better though.

Cause Finns rather write in their native language? Dunno.
Here’s another thing, STT English news and HS English news are both written by non-Finns as well.
Comment by Phil — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 12:31 am
Anssi: “Yea, no TV Finland here.”
Thank God for that as they mostly show crappy programming from YLE TV2!
Comment by Joonas — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 8:40 am
By the way, Iltalehti has a short story (in Finnish) on Conan’s visit to Lapland.
Apparently he has been driving a snow mobile, run around with reindeer horns on his head and had bilateral discussions with Santa. The relations between their countries are good, they agreed.
Comment by Joonas — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 8:54 am
I don’t know why people are bashing on YLE for being crappy…that woman on MTV this morning interviewing him wasn’t that impressive as the questions were rather…stupid for lack of a better word. I mean, I suppose it was supposed to be funny when she asked him if he knew that Tarja was a woman but….
They’re all sticking to such safe and boring topics, presumeably to make sure that Finland doesn’t go the way of the Quebequois.
Comment by hfb — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 11:08 am
Who watches (normally that is, not when Conan is on) Ihana aamu anyways? It’s just all the cheapily made human interest crap that didn’t fit into Huomenta Suomi.
Comment by Joonas — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 12:06 pm
Hmmm… So all the news going to people who don’t understand Finnish are influenced by outsiders? This explains a helluva lot. Now I see why you see such huge biases and near-criminal selfcensorship. You don’t get the original news, but the versions from translators affected by their original ideas, and efforts to not passify in this growingly Atheist and common sense based society*.
* does not include Helsinki, the globalised dump with the 145+1 idiots (Keskusta MPs didn’t count as idiots in this calculation despite their attempt to boost Tarja by nominating prime minister to be demoted to president. Tarja may be a double or triple idiot, but still counts as one)
Comment by A Finn — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 12:29 pm
hei a finn! mä osaan suomea myös. Luen suomenkielisen lehtiä joka päivä. of course my grammar is not so good, but, living in finland i get most of my information in finnish. being a native english speaker of course i frequent some english language blogs. unlike you, i know the difference between fact and opinion. hence the bias and misinformation. if you get your news from a blog you are an idiot. to you i offer a quaint finnish folk saying: haista vittu!
Comment by jenkki immigrant — Tue, Feb 14th, 2006 @ 4:35 pm
Hei!
There was a conan interview on the Today Show today, the video is on the msnbc webpage as “‘Today’ video: Conan O’Brien has a Finn twin!”. Nothing much new, just the basic stuff, but it is Conan speaking for a change (instead of all these finnish reporters/commentators ;).
Go to http://www.msnbc.com link is right there on the frontpage. (for some reason I couldn’t manage to paste it here..)

jenkki immigrant, I don’t pay attention to any news, nor do I trust stuff on the Internet. Commented mostly on the (27.) revealing who actually tells the news to the ones that don’t have a clue what they’re reading when they open a Kaleva or Hesari. I have no idea how you see things, as I haven’t been paying much attention to any comments, so the comment was just for what I figured as the thing creating such ways as Phils way to present news on the blog. I don’t see many ways it could be targeted at you if you understand Finnish.
Mutta kuiteski, haista ite*.
*(Kirjakielen ja yleisten sanasääntöjen noudattaminen vihamielisessä kanssakäymisessä on täysin järjenvastaista, sillä kiihtynyttä tunnetilaa tekstiksi muunnettuna esittäessä ei voi olettaa kirjoittajan harkitsevan sanojaan tarpeeksi muuttaakseen ne kirjakieliseen muotoon. Siispä kielioppi ei päde suomenkielisessä kommentin osassa huolimatta englantia alkuperäiskielenään puhuvan henkilön viittauksista vajaasta suomen kieliopin tuntemuksesta, josta oletin saavani sarkastisia huomautuksia mikäli jättäisin asian kokonaan huomioimatta seuraavassa vajaamielisessä viestinnän irvikuvassa, joka myös kommenttina tunnetaan.)
