Also this Sunday, Terhi Pirilä of Young Kokoomus

Also appearing live on this Sunday’s Radio Free Finland, Young Kokoomus’ (Kokoomusnuoret) press secretary, Terhi Pirilä. She’ll be on to discuss Sauli Niinstö’s Presidential campaign, the National Coalition Party, and Kokoomusnuoret.
While she’s not working at their downtown headquarters in Helsinki, she studies TV & Radio at Helsinki Polytechnic and is active in local politics in her hometown of Ilmajoki.

Hmmm…. is she free?

nice link hank dubya. socialdemocracynow makes some pretty decent points but the article seemed pretty heavy on the phil bashing. everyone is entitled to an opinion. so phil hates the hand that feeds him. big deal. in a free society he has the right to express that hate. no need for that blog author to get so personal in his phil exposure.
Comment by jenkki immigrant — Fri, Feb 3rd, 2006 @ 7:43 pm
I mean seriously; I know Phil, like personally, from way before the blog made him famous on CNN. We noticed his interest in political rants… err… issues from the start – And charged him a Foreign Letters in Surname Tax one crisp April Fool’s morning
Now while Phil undoubtedly ruffles a few feathers, I find the value in that as I take the Finnish stuff “for granted” – there needs to be someone yelling “the Emperor is buck naked”. Not that I approve of the thong he is supposed to be wearing.
Then again I am always totally baffled why somone in Oz finds Finland some paradise… heck, you come live here and freeze your nads off and I’ll happily come there wrestle crocodiles -15 today…
We Finns tend to be the worst complainers at times. But we also defend atleast parts of our system. But I am definitely waiting for the third part of philbashery.

That article in Socialdemocracy Now was a little like shooting a fly with a cannon (ampua kärpästä tykillä). Phil’s blog is mildly entertaining and occasionally even manages to give a new perspective on some aspect of Finnish society, but come on, who really cares what some juvenile “libertarian” thinks. Greetings, all. Sorry for the sojourn, but I’ve been busy starting a new company. Those things tend to demand a lot of time, but now everything seems launched…
And I have missed y’all, especially Phil, Hank W, and Antti (the redneck one), who seem to be the most sensible people living in Finland today. I’ve actually missed your pithy comments and wit. Of course, I’ve also NOT missed the paltry missives that always emanate, knee-jerk wise, from the standard clutch of Finnish Kommie Klutz Kidz (when will they learn to think ouside of the proverbial box…?) But I suppose it’s important to be patient with the young.
So Phil is going to spend Sunday evening all alone in a quiet room with Terhi Pihila (not counting his podcast audience)? It should be an interesting download, later. I actually had the dubious fortune to meet a bunch of Finnish parliamentary delegates recently, on a Finnish taxpayer-sponsored trip to New York. It was interesting to note that all the lefties in that group were, as Antti would say, “flower-hatted aunties”, while the Kokoomus rep was an absolute babe. What gives?
As to that Social Democracy Now fellow, I’d offer one observation, based on reading of a multitude of American political blogs since 9/11: it truly is amazing that while the right-wing blogs give cursory comments about left-wing bloggers, left-wingers (such as Atrios, Daily Kos, and Matthew Iglesias) will spend an inordinate amount of time in personal character-assassination of right wingers (as if Phil was a right-winger). Why is that?
The reason that comes to the fore is simply that the arguments from the right are so cogent and disruptive at this time in history to the ideological foundations of social democracy that rational argumentation has been abandoned, in favor of direct, personal attacks.
This is a sign of desperation, not a sign of confidence in one’s beliefs. Maybe the left will once again offer something worthwhile, in terms of new, viewpoint-altering concepts (as they once did). But for now, they are sadly lacking in ideas, initiatives, and reliable barometers as to what is going on in the world.
Comment by Finnpundit — Sat, Feb 4th, 2006 @ 2:35 am
The left offer something worthwhile? How crude Finnpundi, to even think that way.
But then again the left loves Social Security as a form of moving income from the young to the old.
Then again tax and spend is a usefull idea if you are on the left.

And I’m sorry but I just can’t take someone too seriously when they don’t leave any room for comments and don’t give out their name or photo. At least people have a chance to respond to flammers/trolls on discussion forums, but not on his site, he’s obviously a very weak and insecure person. You imply that it just needs a tweak but you generally argue that the Scandinavian model needs to have less taxes and smaller government. If that’s the case it’s no longer the Scandinavian model but the Anglo-Saxon model. In any case you spend most of your time trying to argue the Scandinavian model is disaster bound.
The point TomiA and the chap who wrote the piece is surely making is that the Scandinavian model works better than the Anglo-Saxon model not just that it can survive, which unless you value GDP above all else, isn’t born out by the best statistics we have.

Which is a classic example of someone divorcing himself from his own heritage, if the majority says his Jewishness is to blame, than it must be so.

This SDN entry is essentially anti-semitic. He is promoting Michael Collins Piper (right-winger famous for holocaust denial), whose theory is that JFK was killed by pro-Israeli or Zionist intrests. That might sound as if it is merely anti-Zionist, not anti-semitic but the idea behind such a theory is that Jack Ruby was Jewish.
http://www.blogigo.co.uk/socialdemocracynow/entry/48677
Here SDN again promotes the theory that “JFK was killed by a vast inerlocking network of Zionist interests”.
http://www.blogigo.co.uk/socialdemocracynow/20060104
The purpose of promoting the myth that “JFK was killed by the Israelis” (when Ruby who killed Oswald was an American Jew) is essentially creating a modern-day variant of the Christ-killer myth to use against all Jews. Interestingly, the Israeli that Piper in his bizarre book claims was involved in the JFK assassination, was a social democrat, Yitzhak Rabin.
In this entry SDN takes a swipe at the holocaust consciousness of Swedish social democratic PM Persson:
http://www.blogigo.co.uk/socialdemocracynow/entry/51915
“You have to wonder about what these neo-liberals in social democrat clothing who flaunt their Holocaust consciousness and sensitivity to the Jewish community on every possible occasion. Are these pseudo-social democrats possibly crypto-Jews? And if so are they starting to come out of the closet?”
After reading a lot by SDN I’m convinced he is not merely anti-Zionist or anti-Israel, he is anti-semitic and a supporter of the great Jewish conspiracy theory. This is why he was so interested in whether Phil has Jewish ancestry or not. Remember, he was not interested in whether Phil is pro-Israeli or pro-Zionist.
Footnote: No, Phil I never said SDN is a communist. I was just wondering whether some comments on a communist website were written by him. That has nothing to do with him actually being communist. I think he’s a crypto-fascist sort of authoritarian statist more than a social democrat. The “authentic” social democratic perspective is quite similar to the conspiracy theories propounded by Lyndon LaRouche in the US Democratic Party. His sexual orientation is totally irrelevant to me and if Phil wants to point out someone’s sexual orientation, I’d prefer not to be named as the source. But the political relevance in SDN’s stance on gay rights may explain why never seems to mention LaRouche who is both anti-semitic (like SDN) and anti-gay (unlike SDN). The Bush crime family theory on the murder of Olof Palme sounds like typical LaRouchite propaganda, utterly insane and maliciously slanderous.
Comment by Helsinkian — Mon, Feb 6th, 2006 @ 12:10 pm

SDN seems to be more than willing to publish any unsubstantiated rumor that supports al-Qaeda on his blog.
http://www.blogigo.co.uk/socialdemocracynow/entry/48303
That’s the entry where he is blaming Israel for the Amman bombing that was carried out by al-Qaeda on November 9, 2005. The rumor that all Jews were taken into security before the bombing follows exactly the old anti-semitic version of 9-11 and then in a footnote, SDN writes:
“A possibility that deserves consideration is that this is a cover story, and that the Israelis who were evacuated from the Hotel a few hours before the bombing were the very intelligence operatives who had organized the bombings.”
To me it sounds like SDN is really taking his cues from Osama. Every single conspiracy theory that he comes up with is so ridiculous there is no way to believe anything on the SDN blog.
I must say the propaganda on SDN blog has the hallmarks of Goebbels. The bigger the lie… That’s the way it works. Pure propaganda and misinformation from start to finish.

Anyways Phill you’r not a jew, so SDN should apologise lol
So that you all know that was a reference to a south park joke – not a anti-Semitic remark.
My point is that the word in question is a very strong one and it’s sometimes used too lightly. I would say that SDN could very well be an anti-Semite – the claim about the JFK-Rabin connection certainly suggets that he might. But making up conspiracy theories even if they involve a jew shoulnd’t automaticly make one an antisemite. I mean it’s not like he is denying the holocoust or anything, is he? To me it’s enought that he is into conspiracy theories to make his Phill bashing bogus.

WASHINGTON – Two guns utilized in high-profile shootings this year at the Pentagon and a Las Vegas courthouse both came from the still and all unbecoming appropriate: the police and court system of Memphis, Tenn.
Law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that both guns were once seized in wrong cases in Memphis. The officials described how the weapons made their separate ways from an basis vault to gun dealers and to the shooters.
The use of guns that were once in observe protection to malign police officers highlights a little-known divide in gun regulation in the U.S.: Profuse cities and states ruin guns gathered in flagitious probes, but others rat on or customers the weapons in command to profit e avoid other guns or gain patrol equipment.
In incident, on the heyday of the Pentagon shooting, Pace 4, the Tennessee governor signed legislation revising shape law on confiscated guns. Once, law enforcement agencies in the federal had the option of destroying a gun. Under the new idea, agencies can only put an end to a gun if it’s inoperable or unsafe.
Kentucky has a nearly the same law, but it’s not clear how many other states from laws specifically designed to inspirit the protect sales marathon or career of confiscated weapons.
A nationwide review article via The Associated Squeeze in December set up that over the previous two years, 24 states — mostly in the South and West, where gun-rights advocates are only beefy — have planned passed 47 advanced laws loosening gun restrictions. Gun rights groups are making a greater application to pass favorable legislation in affirm capitals.
