Khan, the one with the wrath of star trek.

Ahahahah Khan and Skeletor!!!
Who is that right-middle guy in the… ahem, “eccentric leadersâ€Â-group?
I’m gonna go off on a limb and say Vlad Drac. Just a guess though.

Finlandforthought flashed on CNN this morning as source of some ‘thin-skinned Finns’ ‘ comments on Conan’s Finnish pronunciation!
Comment by Jeff — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 8:30 am
CNN International I mean. Light coverage of the Conan&Tarja running gag, but serious speculation that it influenced youth to vote for T.
Comment by Jeff — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 8:32 am
Am I being too sensitive in being more and more uneasy about this O’Brien prick. Maybe the Stalin/Niinistö “link” just got it.
Mind you, CNN is a fine one to talk. When I watch it (in hotels) I think they should teach some of the Americans how to speak American, let alone English

Huh?
Comment by Phil — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 8:38 am
I LOVE CONAN!!!! I can’t decide which I like better: him or Craig Kilborn. The Craiggers was pretty funny, too. Hmmmm … decisions, decisions, decisions ….
Comment by Stolie — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 8:41 am
Phil, check your email… FFT was flashed for 6-7secs as source for the line ‘Some thin-skinned Finns have complained on websites that Conan has misspronounced their president’s name’, with a scan of FFT from the banner down, and highlighting a comment (by whom?) that ‘…likened his Finnish to a rabbit in distress’.
Comment by Jeff — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 9:37 am
I’m in the “not funny” crowd. Of course, bashing liberal politicians and comparing them to Stalin or Hitler is commonplace in the US nowadays.
Comment by Harja Talonen — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 9:44 am
everybody deserves “15 min of fame” in their lives and this is definitely Findland’s prime time! I mean being talked about on one of the biggest TV shows broadcasted all over the world. It’s gonna affect this country in certain way, believe or not. Atleast it shoulda boost the tourism, folks will say ‘hey, lets go to Finland, it’s been on Conan’s show, it must be a fun place’. Nokia is probably increasing a stock of its cell phones already in anticipation of bigger sales. Finland surely is gettin’ a freebie in advertisement, thanks to Conan
Comment by conan — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 11:25 am
I’m in the “whiners are thin-skinned” crowd. Harja Talonen: You’ll notice that the actual politics of the Finnish presidential candidates have never once been mentioned on the show. Your accusations of liberal-bashing are pure invention on your part. Freedom of speech cuts both ways, and this is what happens when you’re on the world stage.
Comment by Anonymous — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 11:45 am
Phil, live on CNN - you need to get a screencapture
Your folks back home won’t know how famous you are… now you can be: “As seen on CNN”
To CNN: Conan O’Brian’s pronunciation of “Lady Tarzan”, or the other Finnish, except ‘joo’ makes my ears bleed. On the other hand, I think you need to wear earplugs when Tarja Halonen (or any Finnish politician) mutilates English.
Comment by Hank W. — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 11:57 am
“Halonen was hugely popular even before O’Brien discovered their similarities, but Jaaskelainen said hits on the campaign Web site have quintupled partly because of O’Brien’s shows.”

I don’t have CNN.
And according to their website, I can order their online service in Finland.
Comment by Phil — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 1:55 pm
With luck, he’ll read about the troubles in Denmark (and Norway) and cancel his visit like a good wimpish Yank tourist. Then again, seeing him strung up by a posse of militant Islamists and lamprey fishermen might have a certain popular appeal.
Seriously, though, we shouldn’t kvetch about this idiot’s lampooning of Finland. As Finnpundit so cogently points out at every available opportunity, Finland is an evil little anti-American boil on the European derrière and this is simple payback - only one rather dim section of the population thinks it’s flattery.
Comment by Anne Onimus — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 2:05 pm
Hey y’all!
The CNN video is on the cnn webpage. Link is on the right on the mainpage at cnn.com
Comment by Tirlittan — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 2:06 pm
LOL…that video on CNN is hilarious.
Hey, his Finnish is bad but it’s good in a way that it might make the rest of us who mangle it a bit less look good.
Comment by hfb — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 2:33 pm

conan: Are you sure you tried to connect to the right address? The URL you pasted isn’t complete.
It’s also possible you need to go to the video window on CNN’s site before you can view it because it seemed to send my host mask to the window. Oh well…
I captured the video stream and uploaded it for those who can’t connect to it or want to download it. I’m not sure if it is complete though because the bytesize of the file is a bit smaller than what it was supposed to. So it might be missing a few seconds from the end.

The same people who complained about the pronounciation of Conan are prolly the same people who can speak english like our rally drivers. In other words, they should stfu.

Dear D,
You need to go quite far from Finland in order to see well dressed people, to say, at least to France, preferably to Italy.
Comment by Oxfam clothes — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 7:59 pm
JP, thanks a bunch! I got the clip now. I recall the earliest Conan’s shows like back in 93,94 it was OK, but it’s obvious that this guy has found his act and developed over the years and now he simply is one of the best!

“You need to go quite far from Finland in order to see well dressed people, to say, at least to France, preferably to Italy.”
Noo, It is just finest manifestation of Karl Marx’s idea: Dictatorship of the lumpenproletariat and triumph of the substance over form.
Besides, ‘rumat ne vaatteilla koreilee’, or ‘ugly people show off in fine clothes’ as we strict, modest protestants think. :-p
Comment by Antti (the redneck one) — Tue, Jan 31st, 2006 @ 10:50 pm
Protestantism indeed has a lot going for it.

Can we already go push Turku to sea? That had to be the most embarrassing finnish moment in history of television.

We must understand that Turku is not really a part of Finland but a country in its own right.
