I remember the day the crash occured. I went to school (at that time it was Kurikan Lukio, near Seinajoki), and it was the quietest day ever.. nobody spoke, because everyone knew someone who knew someone that was on that bus… It sucked to be an exchange student that day, because I didn’t really know how to react to it.

But during the time tabloids very covering these, many people wanted to blame the truck drivers and “beat the hell out of those irresponsible people”. People got emotional; angry and sad, and then someone needs to be found guilty.

Also there’s been discussion whether or not these trucks with long trailers should be allowed at all. As far as I know, there are more strict limitations for these than here in Finland.

Two accidents like this occurred last year down here.

Both involving buses and trucks.
Not ordinary buses but (yellow) school buses filled with children.
(about 60 children dead in total)

This resulted in a (media instrumented) anti truck frenzy that led to legislation prohibiting trucks from using the streets on weekends (incl. Fridays).

I wanted to ask if anything similar happened there as well?

Phil is an American. According to stereotype he is lucky to even know that Kuusamo is in Lapland right next door to Sweden, Europeland (sic) Mind you many Americans have better world knowledge.
