Copyright law demonstration

Scenes from today’s demonstration in front of the parliament building. I took these pics before the crowd got really big, I’d guess there were 300-400 people in attendance. It was nice to see this kind of civil action in a peaceful and non-partisan manner.

Also nice to see a demo where you can actually tell what it’s about. Lately, whenever I’ve encountered them in Helsinki, it’s been impossible to tell what the hell they want… Only one of those times was because the language of the march was Kurdish. Other times it’s been Finns doing incomprehensible things like samba dancing for change… of something…

Isn’t democracy great? Try doing the same outside the headquarters of Sony Music Finland and count the seconds before some privately hired goons “escort” you out of the premises.

Of course, libertarians wouldn’t even be doing that, since being fucked by private enterprise feels so good.

BTW, if you want to go take pictures of how not to do it, go the the anti-Wolfowitz demonstrations later this month. If everything according to custom, Juhani Lohikoski (the Sosialistiliitto nitwit) will have managed to turn it into an anti-everything demonstration and watered down a worthy cause (the lunar idiocy of our current 3rd world aid) into an cult of antipersonality.

Also, he will have sold it as a moderate demo, but will probably unleash a bunch zombie shock troop with asininely radical banners…

It’ll be a fucking laugh riot. 22.-23.10…. official political comedy day.

Hmm, property rights not so holy after all? I think we would need an electronic bill of Everyman’s Rights!

Well, bill of electronic Everyman’s Rights, but anyway.

Oh yeah, finally a demonstration without those Murros and Sosialistiliitto banners! About time! :D

Try doing that on the private property of TEOSTO, they wouldn’t allow it. But on the public property outside Sony, no problem.

Of course, libertarians wouldn’t even be doing that, since being fucked by private enterprise feels so good.

The Finnish libertarians organized the whole event on Tuesday.

In a libertarian wonderland, there would be no “public property”.

The Finnish libertarians organized the whole event on Tuesday.

Sure, but as it’s been said, the only problem they have with the law is the government being involved. If you just had to sign a contract with the contents of this new law every time you bought music, everything would be hunky dory and libertarians would be cheering.

This is a bit out of left field but … where are the cops?

If a demonstration of this size were held in Sydney, Australia, there would be rows of cops in riot gear. I personally don’t have a beef with police, but when so many attend a rally, looking scary and aggressive in their riot gear, a few idiots are bound to respond, the media films only the .01% of the crowd who are doing the wrong thing, and the cycle continues.

I’m glad you have more of a right to protest in Finland. I’m not glad you’ve lost the right to copy your own goddamn CDs.
