Three more shows that need to come to Finland
Here’s three more TV shows that need to come to Finland…
1. HBO’s “Entourage” - Some people have described this as “Sex in the City for men”, but I hated Sex in the City but love this show. Here’s a description from the website, “the hit comedy series executive produced by Mark Wahlberg that takes a look at the day-to-day life of Vincent (Vince) Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood, and his entourage. He’s brought with him from their hometown in Queens, NY: manager Eric, half-brother Drama, and friend Turtle.”
2. FOX’s “The Family Guy” - After three seasons it was taken off the air, but thanks to Nickelodeon’s late-night “Adult Swim” and rampant internet piracy, they’re back. Fans of The Simpsons will love this.
3. FOX’s “American Dad” - From the same crew that does “The Family Guy”, this is a new adult-oriented animated show that focuses on political comedy. The dad in the show is a white, upper-middle class, SUV-driving, gun-loving, Republican CIA employee. The daughter is a hippy left-winger, the wife is a dumb blond, there’s an effeminate alien living in the house, and a talking German fish named Klaus. It’s awesome. Fans of “The Daily Show” and Simpsons will love this.

They used to show Family Guy here as well. Maybe it it was on Nelonen or SubTV… or even MTV Nordic?

Really? Didn’t know Family Guy was ever here. Well they were on a three year hiatus, so I probably wasn’t here yet. Anyways, season 4 of that show is some of the funniest shit I’ve ever seen, let’s hope it comes. I won’t be surprised if that show ever gets banned in the U.S., they push the button with every joke. Luckily, the humor is way above the heads of those who’d get offended.

Instead of bringing Kansas here, why not try to learn the language and try to watch those weird local programs :)?

I’m a total TV-addict and most of my favorite shows are American.
Yet I fail to understand why everything that is produced in Hollywood just HAS to be imported here. I would still rather watch a well-produced domestic programme than some half-ass American sitcom. I would rather see an increase in domestic production than most of our television turning into America-land.

I read somewhere that foreign stations get many of these American sitcoms for free. The U.S. stations will give out season 1 of “Whatever” for absolutely nothing, and if your country likes it, they’ll sell you seasons 2 onward.

A friend of mine works for Sanoma WSOY and she had been talking to the head of programming of Nelonen. This person was very straightforward in saying that the only reason why domestic programmes are produced is their cultural value. They bring in very little or no monetary profit whatsoever. I’m not surprised by this, but it does make me a little sad.

“A well produced domestic show”?
I’d rather watch a dozen cancelled sitcoms than most cheap crap finnish companies turn out. There are exeptions of course, but they’re few and far between. For every Reinikainen and Studio Julmahuvi there is a Suuri Seikkailu and a countryside comedy produced for TV2.

Why can’t they produce decent Finnish comedies? (I heard that Studio Julmahuvi was excellent though I haven’t seen it yet)

Whatever. Give me Suuri Seikkailu over The Man Show any day.

It’s official - Family Guy was on MTV3 back in 2002. (Here’s the proof)
7th episode of the second season was aired on December 21, 2002, whereas first ever episode was aired on June 10, 2001.

Did Family Guy have a Finnish title? I just remember Kukkulan Kuningas (King of the Hill).
