Finland for Thought
Politics, current events, culture - In Finland & United States

Tervetuloa | Welcome
As an American living in Finland, I started this blog six years ago to address the political and cultural issues in Finland and the United States - but lately this blog is just a place for me to make fun of Finns and Americans. :-)

Finland Diary – Washington Post Blog

Tags: Uncategorized — Author: Phil @ 10:37 am

Well it looks as if the left-wing Washington Post has embraced the blogosphere and setup their own “Finland Diary” blog and they’ll be updating it daily for the next three weeks…

For three weeks, Lucian Perkins and I will be traveling around the country to try to figure it out. Lucian takes pictures and occasionally writes about what he sees; I will concentrate on words. We will try to figure out how the Finns have been so successful in so many different ways and why Finland appears to be one of the most modern and most adaptable societies anywhere. We’ll also see if we can find some chinks in their armor, on the old but reliable theory that nothing is perfect.

We will add something to this Finland Diary every day. We’ll also produce stories that will appear here and in the Washington Post newspaper starting on Tuesday, May 24. And we hope to hear from readers as we travel and talk to Finns. Please post your questions, comments and recommendations here, or send them to us in our official back-channel: finlanddiary@washingtonpost.com. We’ll respond whenever we can.

Hat tip to to Tapani L. for the link!

  2. But it’s good to know in advance that Washington Post is “left wing”. Then we can completely dismiss their results (ie why Finland is a success story) if they don’t fit into our own views, right, Phil?

(Washington Post left wing, my ass. Only compared to Washington Times.)

Well to be fair, if it was the Washington Times who was doing this story, I would have said right-wing.

  5. WaPo is certainly left-wing, though not in the classic sense known in Europe.

  6. Phil, we should oder you “Kansan Uutiset”; it would have two benefits:
    a) teach you what is left-wing
    b) something to use when the bog rolls run out
    ;)

  7. “Paper strike threatens the availability of toilet paper. In other news, subscription to Tiedonantaja has become popular again…”
