Norwegian woman convicted of rape
I promise never to pick fun at the Finnish court systems ever again…
A Norwegian woman is sentenced to nine months in jail for rape - this is the first conviction of its kind for the Scandinavian court system.
Back in January of 2004, a 31-year-old man reported to authorities that he had fallen asleep on the couch at a party and woke-up to find the woman performing oral sex on him.
Norwegian law states that all sexual acts with someone who is “unconscious or for other reasons unable to oppose the act” are considered rape.
The woman was sentenced to nine months in jail Wednesday and ordered to pay 40,000 Norwegian crowns ($6,355) in compensation.
This is the first conviction of a woman for rape in Norway.

Hell, I’m off to Norway if I will be paid $6,000 for getting a blowjob!! It seems the dude who wrote that NY Times piece on the Norwegian welfare state hadn’t quite discovered its wonders:-)

Phil,
Funny that your quote does not include the bit about the woman’s boyfriend taking photographs at the very moment the rape victim woke up on that fateful couch. I don’t know what they did with the photos but if they were used as evidence, what else the court could do but to convict?
In most countries this would not be called rape, it would be sexually taking advantage of an unconscious person or something of the like. What is understood as rape is always a technical issue that stems from the specific country’s legal tradition. Would you guys really feel comfortable in that type of a situation? I have never heard of a case where a woman was accused of rape that was a one on one encounter with no third party present. In Sweden during the 1990s I heard of a case where a woman was accused of having raped a woman. It was also about the rapist performing oral sex on the victim. In that case I believe someone was holding the victim so that she could not escape. Those people were from a born-again religious group, if I remember correctly.
By the way, doesn’t Denmark’s new Social Democratic leader look like Tanja Karpela? This picture is from Norway’s NRK:

Sorry about my previous comment. The bit about the woman’s boyfriend being present and taking photographs was obviously not mentioned by the information agency you referred to. That minor detail would make a juicy story too complicated for the media. The boyfriend apparently only took photos, he was not accused of participating in the rape.

You think it is a joke, that a man is getting a compensation for being raped? I, as a homosexual, wouldn’t be pleased at all if I would wake up and find a woman sucking my dick. And I wouldn’t necessarily be pleased to find a man sucking my dick, if he wouldn’t be somebody very attractive or, if I was in a relationship, my partner. Anyway, I think that I should have the right decide if I want to have sex or not.
I think that it is a double standard to demand that women must have the right to choose their sex partners and whether they want sex or not, and at the same time to tell, that a court system which convicts a woman for denying the same rights from a man, is a joke.

I vaguely remember reading about a case in Sweden in the late 1990’s where a teacher was accused of raping her pupil. She had taken advantage of a phenomenon that most teenage boys are familiar with, his unwanted erection, forced herself upon him and continued riding him even after the boy had begged her to stop.
I don’t remember whether the teacher was convicted or not, but if this case is not rape than I don’t know what is.
