Um. Firstable:

I think that Helsingin Sanomat should’ve also mentioned in the article that ‘Kuukkeli is not official and nobody (especially not the organizers) is claiming that the process is professional in the first place.’ It should’ve been there. Kuukkeli-awards are not enjoying public trust, and awarding should really be based completely to jury (none of them could or should be part of any of the blogs being nominated), or completely to the audience.

Then it could be perhaps taken seriously and I could respect the efforts and outcome.
I disrespect lots of the members of the jury because of their selfish and rather na?Ã†ve opinions said out loud during this conversation all around ‘blogistan’. Most of them seem to be rather arrogant and rude, and somehow self-glorify their illusional success and authority. Even a person I think as a friend has said some incredibly stupid things aloud in this conversation and I try to justify them just being happily ignorant. All of them, surprisingly, are the ones who themselves are actively taking part in the social gatherings (I don’t consider that as a Crime), and considering themselves as the elite of a kind.

Personally, I’d like to see people seeing the bigger picture and taking their heads out of their ass.

I still think you’re just taking this way too seriously. It is a blog award. Sometimes you “win”, sometimes you don’t. I never do. I can understand that you need recognition for your (solid) work with the blog and I can even sympathize your checking the Pinseri ranking every 10 minutes. It’s human. You want to be the best, who doesn’t?

But dude, this is not a huge thing. At all.

Since there are no other orgnizers of awards like this, I think the “Finnish Blog Awards” name fits. At the same time I also would like to see the selection process improved, the whole process to be more open and more inclusive of larger part of the blogging community.

Well said, Phil and Tiedemies! Of course, the jury in question was free to choose any winners they saw fit – I mean, they did a whole lotta work organizing the gala and everything – but to call the contest “Finnish blog awards”, given the line-up of the jury and the voting process, and how it was taken into account, is thoroughly absurd: Here are the nominees you saw fit, but we thought it’s best we give the award to ourselves. (and btw: however aware the jury was from the beginning that they were no professionals, and indeed it was proven they weren’t, it doesn’t mean the process wasn’t totally f****d up, pardon my french)

If this kind of nonsense is to continue, better call the awards “Kallio-bloggers wish all well to each other and here’s a small statue awards”, and forget about calling them, rather pompously, “Finnish Blog Awards”. Sheesh!

I think “Jesse” and other writers who are accusing Phil of being jealous or bitter are rather pathetic. Phil makes valid points about the Kuukkeli contest.

If it is a contest about what five dudes think of their blogs and those of their friends – as it now seems to be – it is rather unfair to call in the media to celebrate it as the Finnish blog awards. True, anyone could start their own, but c’mon, how many do you think the media will report? It’s not like there are a million blogs in Finland.
