Word of warning though – only relatively small amount of the money actually goes to the charity. In some cases the telephone operator takes the larger share. I recommend a bank transfer: that way every cent goes to the charity.

Hey Mikko, I wondered about the same thing, have you heard how much goes to the charity and how much goes to the operator?

There was something about this in TV a long time ago, so I don’t remember the exact amounts. But I think in the worst case smaller share of the money goes to the actual charity. Of course, the smaller the sum the larger the percentage of all sorts of expenses and operator shares.

They said yesterday in TV that the share for the operators is between 10% and 20%. Some of the operators pledged to give a part of their share to a charity.

10 to 20% is acceptable. But keep in mind that from what is left and handed over to the organisation there always will be taken off another bite… Unless it all stays within the 25% it’s ok. Anybody here that knows of an agency that looks into what they do with your donations?
PS, the Swedes donated 44 million!

Impossible to say for certain, but according to Red Cross, it’s over 8.6 million, and Unicef says they’ve received a little less than a million.
